I am not the one who thinks just because someone else has more money, they should be made to pay more(percentage wise)....while you might feel you should,it doesn't mean others should.

Sorry if this hit a nerve.

I think it IS unprincipled to believe a person who has more of something than others should have more taken away from them...

But clearly they'll know intuitively what the x amount they pay in 'military tax' is actually spent on, and whether or not they're paying enough, too much, or something else.

Look, I'm interested to hear some actual arguments a) that federal taxes can or should be abolished or b) that flat tax is based on any form of logic. I'm all ears, really.

So why should they pay more at all? Why not have a fixed sum? If anything, the rich should pay less, because they are more likely never to rely on handouts, which after all make up a significant amount of federal spending...

What is funny here is this:
People think paying anything when you are 'poor' is too much of a burden, but having the 'rich' pay a higher percentage is fine because they have more...

To those whining about the poor(who knew 47+% of Americans are 'poor') having to pay anything, how about everyone pays 10% of their pay in taxes?

SO the person earning $10,000 pays $1000.
The person earning $100,000 pays $10,000.
The person earning $1000,000 pays $100,000.

Oops that won't work, the 'rich' aren't paying enough and the poor guy actually has to pay something instead of taking money not paid in....

Again - why not everyone pay the same fixed sum?

It hit a nerve not because I lack confidence in my convictions but because it was a deliberate attempt to insult and discredit me personally, not simply counter my position.

Everyone should pay the same percentage,or even better, there should be no income tax but only a national sales tax on new goods and services.

Umm,no,I would know better than you what it was meant to be as I wrote it.

As I stated I find those who think others should pay more simply because they have more to lack principles...and I find it quite amusing when such types are 'baffled' that someone would go against their own self interests to stand by their principles...

You mean our fabulous culture of consuming for the sake of consuming?
Yeah,that would be terrible.
Watch a program called 'Affluenza',you might find it interesting.

The national sales tax would be instead of income tax,it would only apply to new goods and services so only those who CHOOSE to buy new would pay.
