Nobody outside of the immediate area cares about this, you choose to live and work in these areas.

Hello.

Of course, those in the area may want to take a moment to silently curse whoever decided to build the best part of the country's largest city on a small island.

Thankfully I moved from the island. The bridge and ferry is definitely a big bottleneck I am happy to no longer have to deal with. Rarely commuted across the bridge, living far out on the island, but that is just one less expense to have to deal with. The ferry ticket price is a real raping also.... don't have to ever deal with that again, either.

Two years ago I went over the GW Bridge after a long absence from my native state, NY. I paid $8. There was a toll taker. I said for $8 shouldn't I at least get a lottery ticket? But then I went only a few more miles and crossed the Throgs Neck Bridge and paid another $5 (now it's up to $6.50). That was $13 to drive less than 20 miles. Now it's going to cost $12 just to cross the GW Bridge and $6.50 to cross the Throgs Neck Bridge? P.S. The road wasn't paved with gold.

What do the regular people do who have to cross these bridges to go to work 5 days a week?

I've never paid any toll in Tennessee. Year after year, truckers rate I-40, that crosses east/west through Tennessee, the best stretch of road in the US for driving. I drive many miles through western Virginia (I-81 (runs north/south) and then across Virginia (I-66 runs east/west), then on the DC Beltway and never pay a toll.

What are you guys in NY/NJ doing wrong? Are they trying to keep people in NY or keep people out of NY?

$12 to cross a flippin' bridge?

"The Associated Press left a message for a port authority representative. Its board members have said the fare increases will pay for construction that is fueling the region's economy. It also says it needs more money to replace the cables on the George Washington Bridge, rehabilitate the corkscrew-shaped ramp into the Lincoln Tunnel and take on other maintenance projects. The authority receives no tax money and supports itself through tolls, fares, fees and rent paid by businesses at its ports, airports and other properties."

Yeah, but $12? And how does this relate to Obama's Job Infrastructure thing? If they're raising the toll money what are the rest of us taxpayers, who don't cross the bridge, paying for with our tax dollars in the Obama Jobs Act?
You'd sell your child for $12 or $4 more than it costs now?
Talk about hyperbole.

Don't want to pay it, take public transport.

Sheesh.

So much for going to NJ to grocery shop. Rather pay the toll then have the bridge fall down.

They charge $12 to cross the bridge? Wow I didn't know that. Crazy. I remember when I was a kid they built a new bridge from my town over the Missouri River and they said the toll was to pay for it. It was still being charged when I left town for good years later. Probably still is for all I know.
