I thought politicians were supposed to listen to the voice of the American people and that was one of the main points of the Tea Party.
Only when "the voice of the American people" is calling for more corporate kickbacks and tax cuts for the upper crust. Anything else is "socialism" and besides "polls are stupid." Well polls are stupid, unless it's a poll saying the majority of Americans disapprove of Obama. Suddenly that poll is great and reliable and the voice of the people!
It is real easy to have bias in a poll...depending on demographic group polled and if skewed one way or the other, way questions are asked, etc. It is quite comon to find bias in most polls....That is why it is better to use the average of several pollssasking s similar q if possible. However, both sides will also report bits and pieces for a spin job....
Best polls have the best represetation fo group trying to predict, obviously if there is huge variation in demographics...will have less predictability
Well, Google can be your friend. A quick search can get you to an article like this where you can learn about how scientific polls are conducted.
Modern polls, which have proven accurate within 3%, typically use ~1,000 sample respondents. Polling is pretty much a science and those that do it professionally know how to achieve a representative sample.
while the responses 'might' me accurate the questions can be quite misleading
for example "would you favor an increase in taxes on the wealthy""".....yet the FAIL to DEFINE what wealthy is..how we determine wealth...what the taxes would effect the lower class...ect
fact if you had a FLAT TAX of say 10%(with only deductions of taxes paid elsewhere (ie state and local taxes) and family size))...the rich would be paying even more than they pay now .....so under that senario a lower 'rate' of 10% for all..would tax the rich more..and bring in more revenue
but TRYING to tax income is very hard, especially since a majority of income is never reported
No. People will always vote in their own best interest. The majority who are NOT wealthy should not be in a positon to inflict higher taxes on the minority which happen to be the wealthy.
Higher taxes for ye and lower ones for me!
People want higher taxes because it makes economic sense as far as dealing with the deficit not because they just want to tax the wealthy.
Someone should pass this to Grover Norquist. Most Americans seem to be disagreeing with his pledge. Republicans seem to be on the wrong side of this issue.
Those people who were polled are going to get half of what they wanted next year. The compromise Speaker Boehner made with the Democrats to increase the Debt Ceiling this past August included the repeal of the extension on the 2001 tax suspension.
Since this tax increase will effect everyone who earns more than $32,000, we can easily derive that liberal freaks consider anyone who earns above a poverty level income to be "wealthy."
I agree. You can repeat the obvious over and over and over again, and some of the righties here still will not listen.
Americans want: spending cuts AND tax increases. Gee, that's what Demcorats want too.
WRONG. Americans want OTHERS to have spending cuts and tax increases. Come back when the 51% that dont pay a dime in income tax, is willing to start to pay "their fare share"..
The majority of Americans would be for topless NFL cheerleaders and free chicken wings on gamedays if someone else's daughter were getting naked and paying for the food.
What do you have against topless cheerleaders and chicken wings? that is downright un-american.
People want higher taxes because it makes economic sense as far as dealing with the deficit not because they just want to tax the wealthy.
what makes more economic sense it to cut spending
raising taxes is not going to eliminate the deficit...we currently have 2.3 trillion of revenue..with a budget of 3.8 trillion....a 1.5 trillion dollar deficit....you could tax the top bracket at 100% and you would not eliminate that deficit
we need REAL spending cuts...not cuts on future increases
WRONG. Americans want OTHERS to have spending cuts and tax increases. Come back when the 51% that dont pay a dime in income tax, is willing to start to pay "their fare share"..
You need to talk to your rightwing buddies about not paying taxes. Several posters on here have admitted to being in that 51 percent group Fox likes to call "takers."

It could be, but I don't have too...I have the scientfic backing to state with authority, unlike people who don't understand research methods....
