The question of this post's title shows the problem with many people on this forum.
The United States makes a rational decision not to support unilateral declarations of statehood for an atmosphere that is clearly not ready for it.
In doing so we are making a responsible decision, and standing by an ally.
The United States' decision not to support the Palestinian declaration of statehood was not a rational one...it was biased and as always a hypocritical decision in support the wrongs and injustices of Israel. The United States has the audacity to go around the world pounding its chest, telling the world how it supports the people and is for democracy for all people around the world.
However, when the United States had the world stage and an opportunity to personify the freedom and democracy it preaches...it backed down and showed the world just how hypocritical it is. Instead, it opted to deny freedom and independence for a people in favor of supporting its eternal friend and oppressor Israel.
Israel continues to justify it's occupation and oppression in the name of security. It's a lie. Israel has one the most advanced military forces in the world, only second to the United States. Furthermore, the United States has made a blood promise to protect Israel. So, what in hell does Israel has to fear about Palestine becoming an Independent nation?
This entire issue is about CONTROL. And Israel wants to control and dictate to the Palestinian government its people until eternity.
What on earth is the deal with this obsession the United States Government has for Israel. Okay, It's normal and expected that nations will stand by and defend its close friends and allies; however, the relationship between these two countries have gone far, far beyond that.. appearing more like the United States has some sort of an obsession or Worships The State of Israel as its God and protector.
The United States, by defining its relationship with Israel in deity or biblical terms, such as "everlasting", "eternal"., etc seems strange, to say the least. No other nations on earth uses such terminology to describe relations with friends or allies. Such terminology clearly imply that the United States would sacrifice (kill or desroy) it's own citizens, people of other nations, its own economy, its own peace, its own security, etc., for the sake of Israel.
And, these two possessed crazies both have nukes. Scary.

Palestine's good days are just a few years away, a decade or two at the most.
Israel either needs to accept this fact and abdicate all stolen property and patch up with her neighbours, or get embroiled in a lifetime of war that is not going to end good on her side
Obama clearly has a soft corner for Palestine. But with elections looming, and approval ratings at a low, he's got no other choice but to play constructive politics
Israel is special according to the Bible, which many people simply discount as religious drivel --- But, for believers, it is very clear throughout scripture that the support of Israel is in our best interest. The U.S. has been a friend of Israel since 1948 when they stood behind the formation of the state of Israel.
Ultimately, in the End Time, all nations will turn against Israel (which should immediately please many of the antagonists). At that time, Israel will be surrounded on all sides by her enemies who will swoop in for the final kill ... only to be destroyed in one day.
