No more 'rationed' than here, where only those insured can afford to get care.

Besides, many of those countries where you claim that care is rationed have better medical results than the U.S. France is ranked number one in health care.

So, we pay twice as much; don't have everyone covered and have worse results. Great lesson.

Lets take this one step at a time comrade!

Like the military? The roads, dams, bridges ,tunnels and railroads spanning the nation? The National forests the public beaches. SSI, Medicare, public education? FDA protections, enviornmental protections. The government is extremely good as many, many, many things. Much better and more cost effective when those entities are well run without political garbage plugging up the systems. The ones that should keep out...are lobbyists and politicians

Public Education is in a terrible state, Medicare is nearly insolcent, FDA does the bidding of big Pharma and big AG, environmental protections like the BP spill as a result of a bureaucracy not doing the proper oversight it was actually required to do? Are these successes in your eyes?

i can't believe that there are still people trotting out all the good that the big government is going to be doing for them.....

here is yet another example of theft from the citizens. how many more do you need?

Nov 3 (Reuters) - Mortgage finance giant Freddie Mac said on Thursday it will seek an additional $6 billion from U.S. taxpayers following its worst quarterly loss this year.

The government-owned company reported a comprehensive loss in the third quarter of $4.4 billion, it said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. That compared with a $2.5 billion loss for the same three-month period in the prior year.

Despite an income of $4.6 billion, the company registered a net worth deficit of $6.0 billion, which was partly attributed to the $1.6 billion quarterly dividend payment owed to the Treasury.

this country is being systemically looted by those on top-and,yes, that is the government---which MAKES THE RULES (and is supposed to punish the bad guys. haha). bill black has an interesting 3 minute clip on it here, and denninger has another on his site from OWS:

Prof. Bill Black - Financial crisis probe, prosecution failure - Fire Summers, Geithner, Holder - YouTube

i see we have yet another ponzi scheme unraveling today. too many criminals, zero prosecutions.

another thing:
From November of this year to November of 2012 taxpayers will have to pay for the deleveraging of 100s of trillions of dollars in bets with leverage of 20 and 30 to 1.

the big five US banks have 250 trillion dollars in CDS exposure and all of those CDS are guaranteed by the FDIC and the US taxpayers.

Medicare suffers from rising medical costs as does the insurance companies. If Medicare is insolvent then the insurance companies are insolvent. Medicare also does a better job at cost containment.

Here’s the raw fact, from the National Health Expenditure data: since 1970 Medicare costs per beneficiary have risen at an annual rate of 8.8% — but insurance premiums have risen at an annual rate of 9.9%. The rise in Medicare costs is just part of the overall rise in health care spending. And in fact Medicare spending has lagged private spending: if insurance premiums had risen “only” as much as Medicare spending, they’d be 1/3 lower than they are.

The EPA is responsible for reducing pollutants in the air by 96%. LA used to have smog. I haven't seen smog in decades. Lake Erie used to catch fire in the 1960s., etc.

This thread reminded me of a particular instance of small government and conservatives in small government.

No pay, no spray: Firefighters let home burn - US news - Life - msnbc.com

This is what the free market looks like where government does not even provide the most essential services and why it isn't such a good idea.
