Obama threatens veto on Republicans trying to water down deficit cuts | Business | guardian.co.uk

Politics. It's awesome. Check out the last paragraphs of the article....here, I'll make it easy.

...deadlock on the supercommittee was blamed by the Democrats on a long-time Republican political lobbyist, Grover Norquist, who leads a campaign against tax rises. Norquist has persuaded Republican members of Congress over the years to sign pledges never to raise taxes. All six Republicans on the committee had done so.

If they had agreed to tax rises, they would be open to charges of reneging on the pledges they gave to Norquist, potentially damaging when they stand for re-election.

That's American politics. The country goes to Hell while the people who are supposedly there to make it better/get it back on track are just carefully guarding their political career. Gee, that sounds eerily like privatizing the profits and socializing the risks. Save your job at the expense of your country's well being. Heh.

What connection to tax increases does "privatizing the profits and socializing the risks" have?

And the leader in "privatizing the profits and socializing the risks" is Obama. Just look at Solyndra and GM.... perfect examples.

Validate your claim by telling me how taxing more, and reducing more money in the economy, is supposed to stop this country going to hell.

Why did these people sign the tax pledge in the first place? It goes back to the analysis that we don't have a revenue problem but a spending problem. We're like the NBA player who goes bankrupt in spite of making $5 million per year. It's unlikely that getting another stream of revenue besides his NBA salary is going to solve his problem.

Good. Now let's hope he also pledges to veto anything the Democrats got through to throw out the domestic spending cuts.

Yes, him compromising and ticking off the left-wing of the Democratic party highlights Obama's obvious partisanship.

This is another good example of why you can't trust the GOP. They took the country to the brink of default, now they want to weasel out the deal they forced on everyone else. Typical.
