Harcore pornography is only legal in New Hampshire (by state statute) and in California (by state Supreme Court decision). In other states like NY and Florida, the statutes banning pornography as prostitution are not enforced.

California has mandated condom use for years, it just isn't enforced. The ballot measure is to show awareness of that issue in Los Angeles. Los Angeles's San Fernando valley (aka Porn Valley) is the center of the porn industry.

If the ballot measure passes, it will be struck down. You can't force two consenting adults to wear a condom. For the state's rights people out there, it doesn't say condom use is required in the Constitution. Funny about the state's rights people, they tend to be against birth control except in this situation.

Plus, sex on camera is protected 1st amendment free speech.

Two consenting adults? No.

If it's your JOB. You can force them to wear a condom if it's got to do with their JOB. Because if they don't then porn crosses over into the prostitution ring. No longer a "performance" it's sex for money when they violate those OSHA rules.

When people prepare food there are certain requirements they have to adhere to as well.

When janitors clean toilets they wear protective covering so they don't get contaminated don't they?

OSHA requirements.

There is no mandatory condom use anywhere in the porn industry. To the extent that condoms are used, it is done so voluntarily. The overwhelming number of porn performers are not “employees†of the production companies, and, therefore do not come under the jurisdiction of Cal\OSHA regulations.

If the law says they have to wear condoms to work legally.

They will.

Independent contractor or not. They will. If it's the law.

Said like the big government advocate and opponent of personal freedom that you are, as long as males are being screwed over.

I guess you have no problems with California overregulation and hostility to small business, and you don't have any problem with increasing the welfare rolls either. Some "conservative" you are. You're not a conservative, you're a statist. Doing porn is better than sponging off the state.

Likewise prostitution's preferable to welfare as well as a means for women to earn money.

You're missing the point: California law doesn't say that they need to wear condoms. If LA enacts a law which says that they will need to use condoms, that law will be unconstitutional, and will be readily tossed out. If the taxpayers of Los Angeles want to spend their funds defending a law that will be overturned, I guess they can do that. However, it makes little sense to do so when their is no real problem to address. Mandatory usage of condoms in straight porn is a solution to a non-existent problem. Again, in straight porn, the rate of HIV transmission is below the rate for for the general population. You would have a bigger effect on lowering HIV transmission if you required the general population to wear condoms.

This is little more than a back-door (pun partially intended) means of throwing additional obstacles in the way of an industry many people find personally offensive.

The Porn industry is dancing on thin ice. There've been several HIV alarms this year and I don't care if they're Adults or not. They know what industry they're in, they know the risks of unprotected sex. But they should be the poster children for safe sex, because they have a responsibility to demonstrate for the consumers of porn that they must use condoms as well.

There's enough porn in the world that they could shut down production in L.A. and there would still be enough porn in the world people could survive without the Los Angeles porn industry.

Glorification of porn needs to stop. It's trite, worn out, used, stale, boring, filth.

I still have no idea how the Porn industry can survive and it not be considered prostitution. (One more thing congress has their filthy hands on).

It's people having sex for money, and companies and people profiting from it. It should be shut down for that reason alone.
If you don't like it and find it offensive, then don't watch it. You have a right to YOUR morals...not anyone else's.

I actually do enjoy some good porn from time to time, as do many other American adults.

Hyperbole much? When was the last time an adult entertainment performer died from an STD? It's a pretty rare occurrence, and the porn industry actually takes this issue somewhat seriously. I doubt it's possible to get the statistics, but I'd bet good money that on a whole that STD rates in the porn industry are comparable or even favorable to the general population.

Obviously you have no problem with unprotected sex among non monogamous partners.
You seem to be under the impression that condoms are the only form of protection.

Yeah right. Just like any other performance of "Streetcar Named Desire"

To me watching someone screw on film is like watching someone eat a sub sandwich.

Sex is like eating, sleeping, normal things humans do.

Putting it on film doesn't raise it to an artform. Performance my brown eye.

It's prostitution. The Production Company is the pimp, and the "performers" are the prostitutes.

Again, don't watch it then.

I understand the desire to protect people from diseases, but considering that these are adults who know what they're getting into, I think a law requiring condom usage goes too far. And where would they draw the line? If a married couple decides to make a sex film to sell for profit, technically, they'd be required to use condoms too. That's too much.

The vanity of stupid politics...

Porn production crews will go to Canada,Mexico,Bahamas to shoot...

On second thought, let those crazy LA leftists to shoot themselves in the foot...
They need any tax money they can grab & they are sending businesses elsewhere..?

Good !!!.
