The free market has always existed, and it's always at work. Government intervention can damage the free market, and even detour it, but people will always make individual choices, and that just pisses off the master minds in government. They imposed draconian regulations, and dearly tried to force us all into small compact cars, but we made the SUV the automobile of choice, and that pissed them off.

They stole billions of taxpayer dollars, took over GM, and in another crony venture capitalistic plan, they forced the Volt down our throats, but we have the unmitigated gal to refuse to buy it. So now they are really pissed off, and trying to regulate the SUV out of existence with these new, unrealistic CAFE standards. God damn it all to hell, they will force us into electric cars, if they have to make gasoline cost $10/gal, and write legislation to mandate we all buy an electric coffin on wheels.

Obama and his admin have been playing crony venture capitalist for years, and each time they seem to fail, they screw up the free market and waste billions in taxpayer dollars.
So I take it, that you believe free market existed until Jan 20, 2009. Amazing.

How dare the EPA do what the petroleum companies were going to do anyway.

Ultimately we have to face the fact that our fossil fuel days are soon to be a thing of the past and rise to the modern era. Green living is where we need to be, and thanks to the ignorance of too many of us, we've dragged our feet so long in facing up to the fact that now it's going to cost more to get there.

The desires and goals of the EPA are diametricly opposed to those of the oil companies. This is like saying the new Obama CAFE standards, which will jack up the price of new automobiles, is exactly what the car companies were going to do anyway. You are trying to be too cute by far.

Dense? No, just inconvenient to cause the indigestion you clearly suffer with. Heck, even the guy who talked about the invisible hand, wasn't averse to regulations. But then, he was talking about capitalism, not free market (a free market must be devoid of regulations, no?).

And you, as expected, talked from both ends... that it hasn't existed and that it does. Which is it? Too "dense" of a subject for you, perhaps?

Green living like electric cars? We have much, much less raw materials to make lithium batteries then we have sources for fossil fuel. We will use up the planet's supply of lithium centuries before we run out of sources of fossil fuels.

Dragged our feet? How so?

Green living isn't just about using energy (much less in limited ways). It is also about CONSERVING energy. But then, I have come to expect anti-conservatism from conservatives.
