WASHINGTON (AP) — Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona announced Sunday she intends to resign from Congress this week to concentrate on recovering from wounds suffered in an assassination attempt a little more than a year ago.
According to officials in Washington, her resignation, first disclosed on the congresswoman's Facebook page, is expected to take effect on Monday.
She's my Congresswoman, and i'm sad as hell to see her go. She did a great job for this district, and she helped me personally in a tax matter that i had.
That said, if she decides to run at a later date, she'll win easily.
She should have resigned many months ago. Recovering from such an injury is time consuming. She should have resigned when she was able, get through therapy to recover as best as possible, and if she still wished to serve public office, run for office again.
Having followed her recovery, I can only express my deep admiration for this woman. In the face of death and almost a complete vegetative state, this woman has shown more courage than most on this forum.
Best wishes to her family for her full recovery, and hopefully in the future, she can return to her political career.

We didn't want her to resign, and in fact, we STILL don't want her to resign.
It's up to the constituents in the 8th district, and we'll make that call if necessary, not outsiders.

Isn't there doubts about the level of her brain damage?
I know people are suckers for sad stories but still....
