Oil and Global presence=Freedom....Is it noble? Is it right? Probably not. BUT it is the current reality...Life is a dog fight. Always has been....Always will be.
What in the hell makes you think anyone or any administration will ever change that...Look at the history of the world.

Well like I said before - if that is what this is all about, then let's just come out and say it. Don't insult our intelligence by saying "If we don't get them over there, they will come and get us over here. " Like the Iraqi Navy is going to come over and launch an amphibious assault. What a load of crap.
On a related note - Jon Stewart had a funny skit the other night. Apparently Chavez in Venezuela is purchasing thousands of Russian rifles to prepare for a guerrilla style war in the event of a US invasion.
Stewart looks at the camera and smirks, US invasion? Why would a tin pot dictator sitting on millions of barrels of oil ever worry about an invasion from the United States?

And how about the thundering hordes of well-trained, well-disciplined, and well-equipped Iraqi Republican Guards apparently perceived as being bent on ruling the world?
Such a colossal blunder. It's still difficult to believe this Iraq thing actually came to be.
How else do you intend for me to view your suggestions for "total war" to achieve the goals you favor? Or "do a little disciplining every now and then . . ." to achieve them? If doing these things does not involve killing those who disagree, please explain.
Need I point out to you that it should be our central concern to decide wisely when, where, and against whom we should use military force -- but then when that decision is made, it should be done ruthlessly and thoroughly?
To argue otherwise is to pretend that the forces of evil can somehow be convinced to mend their ways through bribery or browbeating. Only an idealist or a child would think that way.

Characterizing those we may oppose as, "forces of evil" is about as childish and ignorant as person can get. This over simplification into the dichotomy of good vs evil is the realm of children's tales and fictional fantasy. This is the same diatribe used by whack jobs like Bin Laden to characterize the United States. Although this type of speech and characterization may work on the extremist and fundamentalist, those still grounded in reality know the world isn't quite so simplistic.

Oh yes, because our undereducated, hungry, uninsured children do not need anymore assistance because the government needs to use the hundreds of billions of dollars and expendable lives of soliders to enact their “wisely” decided war.
Maybe other people see that some global warring crusade is not the answer, unless you like to see the deaths of thousands of Americans in overseas conflicts. There are other ways that does not involve the numerous deaths of Americans, but chest-thumping war-is-the-answer types would not understand it as it involves intelligence to understand the nature and background of an adversary.

Except for Hitler and Stalin and Tojo and Kim Il Sung and Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda. And anyone who wants to murder and enslave.

You're switching topics. And I don't blame you. Please re-read my post. Especially the part about deciding wisely which fights to take on.
