If NCLB is so bad in the eyes of Liberals, then why did it receive overwhelming bipartisan support at passage?
Are Democrats and Liberals (who by all accounts detest accountability) admitting that the USG can get nothing right? So why do you put so much trust in the Government that you cheer for failing at NCLB?
bush disaster????you mean the senator who wrote it....ted kennedy
you mean the fact that it was meant to help students..that no child should just be pushed through school and graduate with out the ability to read????
we NEED a NATIONAL standard...we NEED the schools to actually TEACH the students...not just socially pass them
Yeah, ted kennedy has the sole power to override the house, senate, and president to pass whatever he wants
It was a disastrous bill that was basically an iron fisted "big government" overwatch on the education system. I thought the GOP was against more government, they should be applauding this

The problem with a NATIONAL standard is that it politicizes teaching. Dangerous thing at the national level. Best to leave education at the State and Local levels as mandated by the 10th amendment (which, btw, is conveniently not being taught in the National Curriculum!) Check out the book "Fed Ed: The New Federal Curriculum and How its Enforced" by Allen Quist. You can peruse the reviews at Amazon for a good idea of what's in it.

Agree. But isn't it just being replaced with another "big government" overwatch program, Race to the Top?
A good step in the right direction for america, Obama will begin ending another in the long line of Bush admin disasters today by phasing out no child left behind in 10 states.
If this was the deal where they wanted teacher's union employees to be held responsible for teaching; then for testing the children to see where they were and to test before a graduate degree (which without testing is useless), then explain the harm of the program?
A law requiring responsibility of teachers and students in education supposedly was said to not work because the teacher's union couldn't do the task, right?
The teacher's spent 400 million of money they took off the taxpayers on Obama in just 2008 to end laws regarding teacher responsibility just like this.

Everything is a "dem dur UNIONS rabble rabble!" conspiracy on the extreme right isn't it?
Students that don't give a damn, parents that could care less as well, look at school as nothing more than free daycare,...sure it's all the teacher's fault.

its not about big government...its about having a national standard
or would you rather new yorkers get a great education and the mississippi blacks be happy with a lower standard
its about the NATIONAL MINIMUM STANDARD...which the states can easily SURPASS
should we or shoulnt we have a standard that states when a kid is given a diploma from a school he/she is capible of reading it?????.....oh wait, I forgot liberals dont want smarts, they want sheep to the slaughter
nCLB was proposed by bush stating simply that we need to BETTER EDUCATE or kids...NCLB was AUTHORED by kennedy(d), miller(d), and boehner(r)...and its PURPOSE....
NCLB supports standards-based education reform, which is based on the premise that setting high standards and establishing measurable goals can improve individual outcomes in education.

It was a stupid law. In fact EVERY federal law regarding education is a stupid law. Education should be left to the states and municipalities, and the feds should keep their noses out of it.
That would be nice. Then the Federal mandate that stipulates that illegal immigrants must get a free education would be eliminated.
