Some people care only for themselves. Their money is their money and they will not spend for the good of all.

Ok - let them keep their money but when they need more care than they can afford let them die in the dark.

So it should not be an insurable event. Insurance is for catastrophic UNEXEPECTED things that you have not saved money to pay for like cancer.

No it is not. Why do you think that? It has not been that way for AT LEAST 40 years. The only way it is like that is if you purchase a catastrophic-only policy, which many people do who have to self insure themselves.

Health insurance covers TONS of preventive/wellness care.

All planned, recreational activities. Guess if I put a screw through my hand while building my garden, I'd be SOL.

Most health plans cover contraception because its a hell of a lot cheaper to supply someone with 400 dollars a year birth control then it is to birth a child, then cover the child going forward.

The premiums for a "family plan" is higher than that for a single. The cost of the baby is already factored in and should paid by the PARENTS and not me.

The amount of ignorance about insurance displayed here is appalling.
Makes one wonder if these are the uninsured speaking.
How anyone with coverage could be so ignorant about their policies just boggles my mind.

My point is that it should NOT. That is why insurance is so expensive. Company plans cover things that should not be insurable and paid out of the pockets of those afflicted.

If you have mental illness then I should not be subsidizing your condition.

You appear to have absolutely no idea why insurance was invented or how it works.

Says who? Not health insurance companies. And they weren't forced into covering non-catastrophic unexpected events, either, they saw it as good business.

Again, people who rant about Obama telling insurance companies how to do business turn around and do the very same thing!

Health insurance is a service. It is not exclusively for the unexpected. If you think it should be, take it up with health insurance executives, who will laugh in your face and show you the door.
