Whatever happened to that concept?

it is...it's just going straight to the oil companies instead of the u.s.

Obama Blames High Gas Prices On Washington - CBS News

Well, well...the shoe is on the other foot now.

No doubt obama's policy to cripple domestic production and kill jobs will come back to haunt him.
did you read the article you just linked, or just the headline?

he blamed not raising fuel efficiency (which would reduce our demand), and then said :

"In the end, we'll only ease the burden of gas prices on our families when Hoosiers and people all across America say 'enough,"' Obama said. "It's time to free ourselves from the tyranny of oil and stop funding both sides in the war on terror."

He also spoke about Washington needing to stop being in the pockets of oil companies.

then when he got in office..he raised fuel efficiency standards, and has worked to try to eliminate tax breaks oil companies enjoy.

he's done nothing to cripple domestic production. it's increased every year.

I'm wondering: Who did you blame when gas prices peaked in 2008 while Bush was still President?
either Bill Clinton or Nancy Pelosi probably.

Get used to it. Peak Oil is here to stay. The era of abundant cheap oil is over.

When you keep burning up a limited non-renewable resource like there's no tomorrow, this it was happens.
Prices will only keep going up and up. It's called the law of supply and demand, something most of us seem blissfully ignorant of.

The day of reckoning is approaching. As sure as death and taxes. You can't escape it.

my friend is about that far also. chevy volt. he gets 120 mpg equiv.

also, even the leaf could be driven to their work, plugged in while at work, and driven home. granted, it would be tight, but the model s this year the base model will have a 120 mile range.

the leaf actually has a larger range, but the batter is limited to 10.4 kwh of the 16 kwh capacity to prevent people from fully depleting the battery. some owners have hacked it to get longer ranges. I'd say for the first serious year of electrics being an option, it's not half bad. and a handful are coming out in 2012, with a few more in 2013.

what exactly do you consider "very soon"?

nope. that's his fault too!

I'm not disputing the idea of peak oil, but the fact is that oil prices have remained slightly above or slightly below 100 dollars per barrel for several years now. With oil prices fairly stable, the only two things that have been increasing are the price of gasoline and the profits of the companies that sell it.

in all fairness though, costs of refining have gone up over that time period. some other factors have certainly raised prices, but I agree with your points.
