SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Republican Gov. Dennis Daugaard vetoed a bill Friday that would have allowed any South Dakota resident 18 and older with a valid state driver's license to carry a concealed handgun without having to obtain a permit…..

….Daugaard said the state's permitting laws are already "fair and reasonable."….

S.D. governor vetoes concealed handgun bill

Do you understand this is NOT AGAINST gun ownership!
It is about responsible concealed carry with a permit.

Vetoing a bill which would have allowed open carry by anyone is not gun control? I thought gun control was anything which prevents an American citizen from packing. At least that's the position of most of the 2nd amendment folks here when it comes to anything proposed by liberuls.

It also allows the state to ensure that those with a CCP are legally carrying, and not some ex-felon who will use it illegally and get every responsible person criticized for the felon's misdeeds.
Oh, yeah. That really stops the bad guys from carrying.

So we need laws to keep good guys from being criticized? That's ridiculous.

Maybe we should have a permit system for free speech. And have the government play a role to ensure we don't offend anyone.

It is gun control and an affront to the Constitution to require a permit to exercise a right.

You must not have understood what I wrote there. I was disagreeing with you quite strongly. Vermont is the proof permits are idiotic and accomplish nothing except infringing on a right.

The Law is flawed. The Federal Government should have nothing to say about what happens in SD. This should be a state issue.

I am a gun owner, in an open carry state. I have no problem applying for and obtaining a CCP.
Bear= carry. Why should we have to ask permission and pay for the privilege of exercising a Constitutionally protected right?

I'm fine with the requirement of demonstrating competence and an understanding of the law but take issue with asking permission. Government was intended to serve the people, not charge them a fee in order to allow them a right they were put in office to protect.
