Because he is commander in chief, if he gives a legal order, soldiers must carry out. When soldiers start calling the shots, we are no longer a democracy.

Only military officers can disobey an "unlawful' order, enlisted service members must obey any order from an officer, and are not allowed to decide on their own not to. They can disobey an order, but they will probably lose when taken to court.

LEGAL. Operative term here.

Was it legal for him to order 110 Tomahawk missiles on a sovereign nation without Congressional approval?

NO! Illegal. He is facing an impeachment charge for that little discrepancy.

OH! News flash, we have never been a democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.

At least up until that last couple of disgraceful Presidents.

Not true. The lowliest enlisted man is obliged to refuse an order to shoot a prisoner, for instance - even if it's a 4-star general giving it. "Befehl ist Befehl" is not an excuse.

This is of course different from the entire "I refuse to carry out orders until the President shows his paperwork" BS - because not even an officer can make that claim. Would be a right to-do if that were the case.

Sure he is. Any day now.

And yes, perfectly legal. The President can order an action, but Congress controls the funding - it's called the "power of the purse" and has been an integral part of division of powers in Western society since King Charles II.
