Two thoughts:

1. Obamacare. Another government program. Can anyone name one (just one) government program that is run efficiently and cost effectively?

2. There is no government entity at any level (fed, state, city) where those highest on the food chain just woke up one morning and realized "Hey, we're going broke. The pensions we agreed to are killing us". The writing was on the wall for years and yet everyone ignored it. Cities declaring bankrupcy doesn't happen overnight. Decimating police departments and other departments doesn't happen overnight. The USPS losing money hand over fist doesn't happen overnight. The signs were all there for years, and I am astonished that so many people igored so many signs of impending implosions for so long.

The govt owns most so-called "private" companies. If they don't have competition then I don't see it reducing cost. Certainly, larger "privately" held companies here have killed benefits and cost are still high. Even with all the outsourcing. Look at govt owned Comcast and Verizon.
