Where was the police at the time? Vigilantism and extra-judicial killings really aren't the way to keep the "peace". It's lawlessness. Most of those accusations were trumped up, anyway, to provide an excuse for that special brand of lawlessness. Charming crowd you seem to admire.

I have a strong feeling that NCN is most likely in the KKK... Hence the animosity towards everyone's opposition to them...
Protecting women was not a central part of the KKK's agenda. Keeping black people down was the reason poor whites started this organization. During the civil War practically all the White men in the South went off to fight the war leaving their wives, daughters and mothers surrounded by black men and no one ever thought about it. Black people were getting ahead too fast. There were too many blacks in Politics, black women at one time were the most literate group in the South, blacks were accumulating real wealth and property and their progress was embarrassing poor whites.
Contrary to what people were taught some Slaves were naturally industrious. Some slaves had bank accounts and I can't tell you how many instances a Slave "bought his family out of Slavery" It took a tremendous amount of money to do that at a time when poor whites couldn't afford a single slave.
Some historians have said that the social system in the south was more like that of Europe and made people insist that a rigid system of a ruling class of people was good for society and White people by all means should be at the the top. IMO A foundational belief of the KKK is no matter how poor and uneducated a white man is he is still on a higher Social plain that any Black man. That's why the still believe in "race science"
I think an organization's core beliefs should be considered in allowing them to adopt a highway. Can we let the American street gangs adopt highways?

Why do I care if they want to clean up highways? Better to do it now as opposed to doing it in an orange jumpsuit.
