ONE more time. IF Hollywood did not exist in it's present state- James Holmes would not have existed in his present state.
This was learned behavior and a life time of conditioning through irresponsible film that was simply evil art for profit- Now you have to live with it.
John Lennon was shot by a man obsessed with "The Catcher in the Rye". Is it Salinger's fault Lennon's life was taken by Chapman?
Hollywood and the TV and video game industry glorify excessive violence---the last two generations have been getting non-stop images of violence like no other generations before us. Studies have been done showing how constant stimulation from watching or acting out violent images changes areas in the brain.

Most parents don't have the time to teach their kids much: They both have jobs that require them to be away from their kids all day. I know people who leave the house at 7 am and come back home at 8 pm. Their kids are in school or with a baby sitter all day. When the parents come home, it's basically time for the kids to go to bed. What do you teach in the twenty minutes that you get to see your kids?
Alas, it must all be worth it - at least we all have a house that's bigger and nicer than we truly need, we have fancy cars that massage our butts while we drive, and every room has a giant flat screen TV. Since we need to pay for all these "necessities," we obviously need to work - and we need to work a lot.
Our kids are paying the price now, our society pays the price later.

Whose fault is it? Hollywood/media industry or the parents?

I think you're right. It's easier to say, "all we can do is pray.." But that's NOT all we can do. What we can do is teach our kids to not fight, that just because our government condones the use of violence, we must rise above it.
But alas, there's that new car we want... and that new yacht.. and that new stock to buy...
...and in the meantime, something lurks in the souls of those who are not happy in a consumeristic world. And nobody listens, nobody cares..
Of course, this young individual may have been ill. Or maybe he has a brain tumor..
But one thing cannot be denied: he knew how to get guns, and how to use them.

He knew where to get chemicals and buy them too Brian. The common denominators in all the murders in history is evil in men, not the weapons or poisons they choose to kill with. The first child born on this planet killed his own brother with a rock.

In some cases, all of the above---but even good parents can't totally protect their children from the onslaught of the Hollywood, Tv, music, and video game onslaught of violence that young people are exposed to today. No other generation has been exposed to this much constant violence, and studies have shown how it changes brain chemistry.
Why is it that we never heard about these kinds of attacks in decades past, say pre-1960? Because many of the deadliest guns available today were not available then, and most people didn't own guns, certainly not semi-automatic high powered rifles with high capability. In my opinion, guns such as the semi-automatic assault rifle used in this attack should be heavily regulated, if not banned for all but law enforcement. When the U.S. was founded, the population was about 2.5 million. They had highly inaccurate one-shot muscots that took a long time to reload. And most people didn't own a gun at all. Today, there are 310 million Americans and likely nearly as many guns, all orders of magnitude deadlier than the guns that existed when the 2nd amendment was written. It's just friggin insane.
