Well for one, they can't, its illegal since the 14th amendment was ratified.
Secondly, we aren't a states rights country anymore, regardless of state. People like big, federal programs, but as Marcus Anthony once said "evil oft live after them, and the good is interred with the bones ".
And lastly, just because all of the electoral votes from my state may go to someone I don't support, it doesn't mean I don't love my state. It just means I want to change it.
The electoral college system has made it a us vs them.mentality, regardless of state. The reality is that the actual population is much more dynamic then a conservative liberal argument.
I disagree. We are becoming a more and more dissimilar people. I believe the concept of multiculturalism is helping along this process. That and the democratic party success with identity politics. Either way there are cracks appearing in the fabric of this nation.

I'm southern, born, breed, raised.
I've also lived in lots of places all over the country.
The cultures aren't that different.

I personally think you Blue states that are so tired of carrying our load in the south should just move to kick us out... There is your answer. Then we could stop listening to your whining.

People vote with their feet all the time. I did when I came back home. Besides, if you feel we are a united people.........you haven't been reading any of these posts. Besides, this isn't really about the north/south exactly. It's more of a blue state/red state thing. Culturally speaking there's a world of difference between here and the left coast and the northeast, typical liberal bastions.

Not that different.
