YES they were and I'll tell you why, basically they didn't even know what they were boycotting about, on various news stations it was said it was because Mr Cathy said he was against SSM but then you hear a few others saying it was because Mr Cathy donated money to the family research center, they just didn't have a clue what they were boycotting about and then the sad displays of kiss in which failed and the Starbucks drink in which nobody even noticed made them a complete laughing stock.
The backfire part was that they general PC public opened their eyes to the childish antics and showed up in the hundreds of thousands to support the rights of Mr Cathy to speak his mind and contribute to what he wishes.

I have never heard of Chik-Fil-A until this controversy but it seems like the CEO shot himself in the foot by broadcasting his views regarding same sex marriage. He should have kept his opinions to himself.
Remember the old saying about not talking about "religion" or "politics" at the dinner table?
Why would a CEO make such a statement knowing that he could potentially infuriate people and his customers?

boycott |ˈboiˌkät|
verb [ trans. ]
withdraw from commercial or social relations with (a country, organization, or person) as a punishment or protest.
• refuse to buy or handle (goods) as a punishment or protest.
• refuse to cooperate with or participate in (a policy or event).

It was called a boycott of CAF not a protest......

Refusing to be silent about something that one does not like is refusing to cooperate.

It seems like all the various groups and political officials who protested against Chick-fil-A or did not allow them in their cities (like mayors from Chicago, Los Angeles, etc.) so that Chick-fil-A could lose business seems to have backfired. Business seems to be booming for Chic-fil-A despite the controversy. Now looking back at it can we now say that the Chick-fil-A protests were a complete failure?
Not sure and doubtful there has ever been a more inspiring example of Americans supporting a Godly, worthy cause !! Chick-Fil-A is a leader in exceptional high quality business traits. My favorite restaurant by far.

The protests were/are a complete and utter failure, THANK GOD !!!

Many of you have a hard time imagining that some people actually care about gay rights, but we exist. I don't plan on ever buying food there as long as Christian Taliban run the show and are using my dollars to fight gays.

I don't think anyone expected the company to go bankrupt from the boycott. The continued existence of CFA ≠ boycott failure.

No they didn't. Perhaps you should read through the thread. And the best thing for a business is not to embroiled in these kind of discussions. Basic capitalism.

There is no God. Just an enlarged portion of religious conservatives lower brains that give strong fear impulses.

I'm sure this was of benefit in the days of mastodons, and sabre tooth tigers. Not so well today.
