Unemployment Statistics during the Great Depression

Hmmm...I see from the table that unemployment finally declined from 17% to 14% in 1940, so the Democrat's policies must have been what finally lowered the unemployment rate, right?

Well, not really...

"We must and will marshal our great potential strength to fend off war from our shores. We must and will prevent our land from becoming a victim of aggression."

Franklin Roosevelt approves military draft — History.com This Day in History — 9/16/1940

The answer to my question is never.

His retarded policies never restored prosperity and they never ended sky-high unemployment.

His policies were a complete failure.

The only reason unemployment began dropping in 1940 is that hundreds of thousands, and eventually millions, of able bodied young men were removed from the work force by a newly reinstated military draft.

After WWII, the United States was the only industrialized nation not in smoldering ruins and for this reason we experienced prosperity after the war.

Notice Reagan's recovery didn't get stuck at 14.2% unemployment the way FDR did or at 8.1% the way Obama's did.

1983 - NBC News Overnight part 1 - YouTube

"The economy grew at 4.5% in 1983, with a few quarters of growth north of 8%. In 2011, meanwhile, the economy grew just 1.7%.
In just one month -- September 1983 -- the economy added more than a million jobs. For the full year, the economy added almost 3.5 million jobs, a trend that continued into 1984, an election year in which Reagan captured 49 states in a landslide victory."

What about the passing of the Glass-Steagall Act?

Wasn't that an effective regulation for many years? Would Reagan had avoided getting something like that passed? If so what would have been the results of not passing it?

Name calling?

Truth hurt?

"We are spending more than we have ever spent before and it does not work. . . . We have never made good on our promises. . . . I say after eight years of this Administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started. . . . And an enormous debt to boot!â€

- Henry Morgenthau

The policies either work or they don't.

Almost three times faster than Brain-dead Reagan.
That is a historical FACT.

we would not have had a unconstitutional socialized security, nor do I believe that RR would have sent the military after the WWI veterans either. I also do not think NFA34 would have been passed either, plus a whole slew of other federal "regulations".

EDDIE - They are not lying. They actually believe their own crap.

If Ronnie Raygun was calling WW2 we would still be fighting in the Pacific and possibly with the USSR.

You really need to read about the relationship between Reagan and the CIA.
