Seems the unions are so powerful that they can turn away people coming to help with the damage the storm caused because they aren't union people. How evil is that?
Why don't the unions start their own companies?? Everybody should be peachy keen with it. All paid what they want and no squabbles over contracts since they are all union buds.
The hostess company that makes Twinkies went out of business. They decided to go out of business. 18000 people out of work. The company said it was unprofitable in large part to UNION wages and pensions. It sounds like union greed is what lost all these jobs.

Yep.
To be profitable, Hostess proposed an 8% pay cut, workers had to pay double for their health insurance premiums, and the pension plan was eliminated.
Welcome to the REAL world, union members.
That ain't nuthin' compared to what the average worker bee has endured lately.
The union's inability to grasp a good business sense has cost 18,000 jobs.

That was a rumor that was subsequently denied at the source.
This does not mean that some union employees did not shoot their mouths off to non union labor imported to help with disaster recovery.

Why do you think the power is still out? Union workers = oxymoron
A long, long time ago my first full time job was with a stock exchange, in Chicago. A union attempted to organize office labor. My job was subsequently determined to be exempt. ( Happy dance time on my part)
After, lots of huffing and puffing on both sides of the fence, it eventually came down to a vote by employees in those jobs that qualified for unionization. Management persuaded qualifying employees it was not in the employee's best long term interests to unionize and a super majority voted not to unionize. I do not think anyone regretted the outcome.
I subsequently worked for NY corporations with organized labor of some office functions. Over time, most of these jobs were eliminated due to technology, not organized labor.
Unions are bloodsucking selfish warts on our economy. The only solution that they have to financial problems is to cut the boss' pay.
I am a liberal btw.
Not all unions are like that, some actually work with management to create the best product possible, while ensuring the employees are properly compensated.
So this guy's business was trying to steal union work it seems. So what is the problem?
How do they "steal union work" if they have a winning bid on a project, or some home owner who wants a cement driveway calls St. Louis Paving from the Yellow Pages?
