Now name a foreign country where you'll have just as much freedom as you do in South Dakota, USA, without having to pay as much for it.
Actually, it was earlyretired that made that statement. Life in SD, USA is pretty darn good, as usual. If he doesn't like it here, then he has few other options than to leave the country. Adios.
Yeah for me. My friends pulled out, plagued by panic and the fear that the bottom would drop out. I figured that we had hit bottom and that the only way was up. Guess who did better...
Right. Anyone who invested end of 2008 and/or begining of 2009 did well. The OP pulled the money out, which was the worst possible thing to do. Unfortunatly I remember a lot of people doing that same and then blowing their savings into guns, ammo and canned food.
Sorry but this is BS! I have a friend who has been living in Germany for 2 years and she has no plans to return to the USA- My stepfather is from Germany and in some ways life over there is much better than here. I was in Frankfurt end of July and there is nothing better than buying a beer anytime of the day or night and being able to enjoy it as you are walking down the street- these American open container laws are idiotic! And yes, you can go swimming naked in Germany if you choose to do so- it is not considered " public indecency" like here in the land of the "Free"
Ummmm, no you can't go swimming naked everywhere.
There are a lot of nude areas, but not all of them.
No, you can't walk down any street drinking a beer any time of day or night.
There may be areas where it's okay, but there are also areas where it is not.
Do many other countries have more freedoms and care for their citizenry better than they do in the US?
Absolutely.

To which freedoms do you refer? For example I love to target shoot. In Thailand that will change. I can live without my target shooting. What I can also live without is excessive taxation on my retirement investments. I can also live without much of the drama and lies that are spewed by both parties.
I love my country, i have bled for my country, but I detest DC and the career politicians that have done their level best to destroy a once great nation.
Do I think Obama is evil? NO, but I think the DNC as well as the GOP are.
Yes I know Thailand has issues as well. I can live there a lot cheaper than I can here and believe it or not it is a wonderful country filled with wonderful people.

Oh no dont shatter the illusion that the USA is the only good country.
Given the path Obama is pursuing to destroy commerce in the USA, I'm looking for alternatives if he wins again. Actually most every American that I'm working with are doing the same.
When it was obvious Obama would win the last time, I pulled most of my money and investments out of the US and saved and built my wealth tremendously by doing so. I'll pull more out if he wins again and liekly emigrate. The 47% will soon be 60% and all incentive to invest and grow the US economy will be gone. For those happy to see the US destroyed, congrats.
Don't let the door hit ya on the way out. And before ya go, please convince similarly minded friends of yours to also leave.

Im liking it just fine, Im worried about the future should the communist be reelected....

Sometimes I must.
That drives me bonkers, the USA is the best.
It's a pretty good country, there are many pretty good countries.
Including Thailand (4-5 weeks this year)!
