It's one thing of your local newspaper delivery person cheats on their spouse or significant other, but for people in a position of authority, it's a bigger issue.

In general, people in power have a different sense of "moral compass" than the rest of us. Many times we get to see that, sometimes we don't. I think in order to climb up the ranks of anything, you are of a certain "personality" type. It's a shame it's that way, but I really believe it.

I also am not sure that every person who has an affair would sell out their country to cover it up. Sure, some will. The affair has been known in the CIA for months and Patraeus has known that they know. He was going to stay on as long as it was kept within the CIA. When the FBI got involved and things started going south, he went public with it. My feeling (just opinion) is that he would never have been blackmailable.

Sex isnt the issue.

The issue is that the keeper of America's secrets put himself in a situation where he could be blackmailed. you simply cannot have that... not ever.

Clinton's issue was not who he had sex with. Clintons issue was that he committed a felony by lying under oath.

(The video shows officials taking at least a dozen boxes of material out of her house.) The FBI also found classified material on her computer.

"Prosecutors are now determining whether to charge Broadwell with a crime" —

"Prosecutors will now have to determine how important the classified material is before making a final decision...."

Looks like they're going to to everything possible to bend the rules for her.

Meanwhile, the WP headline states that Petraeus is "unlikely to face court martial."

"In the Uniform Code of Military Justice, adultery is a violation only when it prejudices or harms the service, or brings discredit on the armed forces. Even then, numerous military law experts said Tuesday, it is rarely prosecuted as an isolated act without aggravating circumstances — such as involving a subordinate or a security breach — and is very unlikely to be imposed on retired Gen. David Petraeus."

I wonder how many in the military did not get that interpretation.

So unless it is proved that Petraeus is linked to Broadwell getting hold of all those classified documents, looks like he will be home free. He'll likely be allowed not to testify in Benghazi, citing all kinds of reasons.

But Allen, because he is still in "active duty" in the military, may face court martial. Sounds like the fall guy. Some are suggesting a reduction in rank (slap on the hand).

We will no doubt be served up hours of media drama all while Benghazi gets buried in the annals of history.
Since there isn't any evidence that Petraeus committed adultery while in military service, on what grounds would you like to court-martial him? There is no "interpretation", there are FACTS.

Petraeus will not be home free. He's suffered irreparable harm to his reputation, and while he and his wife may be trying to get past this, there is no guarantee that Petraeus will not lose his family over this matter.

You have zero foundation for your assertion that Petraeus "will likely be allowed not to testify" regarding Libya, or any other numerous matters. Congress can compel his testimony on whatever topic if they so choose.

While you are entitled to your conspiracy theories regarding Benghazi, your suppositions are not facts.
