Is Life Sentence Too Harsh For Man Convicted of Ninth DWI?

Quote:
But some argue that Stovall's sentence was too harsh and that the court should have considered his struggle with alcoholism.

"This guy has a disease, he is an alcoholic and this isn't the kind of situation where he's acting with malice to hurt people," said Lawrence Taylor, a DUI lawyer and author of "Drunk Driving Defense."

No, it's not too harsh. This man might as well be walking around shooting a gun randomly hoping no one gets hit.

I really think these people need to have ignition interlock devices on their cars for life after the 2nd offense.

He definitely has a disease, but the state should have tried to fix that after the first time. He clearly wasn't getting help during his first eight convictions.

Sorry this guy is a ****ing douche bag that hasn't ever been cleaned. Guess what it just got tossed in the trash. Again good riddance.

I've had to deal with illnesses without government assistance and never put the public in danger.
This pile of feces just doesnt give a **** about anyone but himself.

"He basically walked through the penal code for the past twenty years without any regard for safety or society," said Bradley. "In every single one of his cases he had an opportunity to change

And he's not on the street killing your son or daughter.

This is from two years ago. It's a good opener to a discussion, but I'm curious - why post it now? Or did you not notice the date?

Anyway, he will be eligible for parole after not very long (probably 15 years). They are not throwing away the key, though I do think the law probably should allow that.

this guy has had ample opportunity to turn his life around and he has failed to take advantage of those opportunities. life in prison is an acceptable sentence considering this guy has a criminal record as long as most people cars.

Definitely not too harsh. He should have been locked up for life after the first time.
