Definitely not too harsh. He should have been locked up for life after the first time.
Life? The first offense? Damn, you're harsh.
How 'bout a guy who just left a restaurant and blew a .08 at a checkpoint?
One size does not fit all.
Mebbie you've, never in your life, driven a hundredth over the limit; I know I have.
I know someone who was pulled over for a broken tail light and when asked if he'd been drinking said "yes" because he had been drinking at dinner. They breathalized him and he was just over the limit. He did all the classes, paid all the fines (close to 10k after all was said and done) had a restricted license for awhile, etc. For the record I don't think a first offense when there was no accident or injury should result in life in prison for anyone.

THIS guy however....
I'll bet that guy doesn't do it again. 10K was a high price to pay.
It wouldn't have served anyone to lock that guy up.
He prolly wouldda lost his job and started drinking heavily.

DUI's are really expensive! If there was anything we can "do" to prevent people from drinking and driving that would be it and yet people still get caught. Back before all the laws, in the days of 3 martini lunches, I myself drove when I probably shouldn't have and fortunately nothing bad ever happened. I wouldn't risk it today though. I can't afford it.
Prison may be the best thing for him and whatever family he may have. At least there he'll stay sober and possibly get some medical help.
And he's not on the street killing your son or daughter.
I don't really care if it's the best thing for him but it certainly seems to be the best thing for society to lock him up before he kills someone. He doesn't seem to have any positive value to society and has huge potential for harm and obviously doesn't care about the law so it's past time for him to be gone.
And this isn't a barbaric country ruled by bloodlust. You want that? Move to a country where the government rules the people instead of the other way around.
Yes, please let's start maiming people in the name of justice.
Nine DWI's is a total disregard for society. They are the ones maiming people. Thousands of innocent people every year.
