Revenues were the president's opening proposal. The GOP has stated they will accept some increase in revenues for spending cuts. That's good. So what spending cuts do they want in return for their concession? Why don't they say what they want, instead of expecting the president to TELL them what they want in return?
Dems propose $50 billion stimulus, rise in debt ceiling and postpone cuts for 1 year.
Not just that. They want a 50 billion dollar infrastructure bank, extension of the payroll tax cut, and extension of unemployment benifits. Something like 260 billion dollars. So they are basically taking the money from the tax hikes and tossing it right back into the kitty. Redistribution at it's finest.

Obama said taxes would bring in $1.6 trillion over 10 years.
That's $160 billion per year.
BUT..taxing the rich would only bring in $82 billion.
Where is that other $80 billion coming from ? No details were given.
One can only assume Obamacare taxes ? But that's supposed to be earmarked for insurance subsidies starting next October.
Obama is claiming an additional $80 billion in tax revenue and hasn't said where it's coming from.
The president is the Decider -- he holds the veto pen, so it's a waste of time for the GOP to propose anything that he could veto -- he needs to indicate what he would not simply veto.
Yes, it is a waste of time for the GOP to propose anything, much as they have wasted 4 years of time with their hopes hinging on a hope that Obama would be a one term president so they could push their agenda upon America, well, that didn't work out so well did it?
The Norquist (Mr. Nobody) pledge, and Boehner saying they're (GOP) looking to other ways to raise revenue (other than tax increases) oh what a crafty party, LOL.
In the past 4 years, the GOP has been crafting bills to defund planned parenthood, strip women of their rights to choose what they want to do, any jobs bill crafted also had defunding or repealing the affordable healthcare act, and other tom-foolery. None of which ever would pass the senate smell test, but kept it up anyway, wasting time, knowingly anything they crafted wouldn't pass the senate, all the while trying to make everything appear like it was Obama's fault.
Your GOP legislators are incredibly stupid to think Americans can't see what the GOP is all about.
Rather than to craft and submit bills that are sensible, they're wasting time, and obstructing just as they have the past 4 years.
The President has given them something to chew on, and instead of mulling the President's plan over, the GOP falls back on a pledge from a nobody, and says no. They won't even go into negotiations, just give President a flat out no on tax increases.
I hope America goes over the GOP cliff, they'll own it, and Americans will see for themselves what the GOP is truly about, and it's got nothing to do with being "conservative".
Bush 43 was a decider, that's where you get that garbage from. Why were you people not screaming for balanced budgets when he was in office? Because he was a "R"? you folks are hypocrites.
Want cuts in spending? Where does the vast, vast, vast majority of spending go? How about the big 3: Military, Medicare/caid, and Social Security. If the GOP wants spending cuts so much, why aren't they proposing big cuts in those programs? Yet, they insist we cut spending on things that actually produce returns like education, science, and infrastructure, which account for a drop in the bucket of total overall spending. The GOP constantly says "cut" "cut" "cut", but when it comes time for cutting, they have no proposals that will actually make a difference. Their idea of cutting is completely ass backwards and causes cuts to programs that actually make this country better--science, education, and infrastructure.
War is expensive, amazing concept isn't it? Maybe next time the GOP hacks clamor for another war, they should be honest about the true costs--remember when Bush and his cabinet said the Iraq/Afghanistan war was only going to cost a few billion dollars? Oh wait, they were only off by a few thousand percent---in reality it cost over $2 trillion dollars. And for what? WMDs that still haven't been found and a boat load of debt? Diplomacy is far cheaper in the end AND saves American lives. Try that next time GOP.
The GOP is the one insisting on deep cuts. Do they not know what cuts they want? I'm not sure you have ever been in negotiations for anything before, but it's not usual to expect the other side to make your case for what it is YOU want. The GOP wants spending cuts, but refuse to say which ones--why on earth would the other side help them to define their demands? Let them propose what they want, the way the president did, and that will give Obama a place to counter from. "We want spending cuts" gives him nothing.
Again, it's not up to the president to define what it is the GOP wants in return for their concession on revenues. The Republicans are going to have to step up and articulate their own demands.
Barack can choose whatever programs he wants cut. If he chooses defense he will get blasted by people that work in states that benefit from that industry. If he choose social programs, he will hear from the moocher class.
The GOP has decided to let Barack deliver the bad news for once. No more hustler-in-chief.

Who believes ANYTHING that Barack says? He is not qualified to address economic issues. Barack is a community organizer whose only experience is shaking down "the man".

I'm all for cutting military spending, but we get some of the worst ROI in the civilized world when it comes to education, so cutting money there SHOULD be done.

The president hasn't been the one demanding cuts, the Republicans have.
But okay, if the Republicans don't want to articulate the cuts they've been demanding for the last few years, fine. Let's just go with the revenue increases the president has proposed and leave it at that.
