This is why the nation is doomed. We have politicians who have given away such benefits in exchange for votes and will never be revoked. We have crossed the "tipping point".

There will come a time when the productive have had enough of this con game and will break away from the old USA. Of course, old USA would fall under its own weight, as there would be fewer and fewer workers available for those who want to remain dependent and in political control.

The founding fathers were right, in that only male property owners should be able to vote. Perhaps then we would have policy which reflected the best interest of the nation long term, rather than the "loot and pillage" mentality of the dependent class, which will result in the long term destruction of the nation.

That pure garbage. If you want to get married your motivations should be strong enough that what other people do or don't do should have ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE ON YOUR DECISION.

The institution of marriage is being derided by those who cheat on their spouses and abuse them. Those who don't take the vows and commitment seriously. It is being destroyed by those IN it. Gays have nothing to do with it for just wanting to get married like everyone else.

Now people like Newt Gingrich, Anthony Weiner (to name a few) on the other hand...

No kidding. I fail to see how my neighbor's marriage had any impact on my own when I was married.

No doubt sometimes long-term dependency is fostered, as evidenced by the high rates of Federal Aid to rural, Southern males, generation after generation.

I'd favor no aid for successive generations without the person of the present generation being enrolled and succeeding in passing some form of post secondary education, even if that had to be government paid.

They must be required to be competent at 21st, not 19th, century things.

Yup. Since liberals now call everything a disability. Your kid is misbehaving he must have a chemical imbalance that's a disability that requires a check. So what incentive as a parent do you have to make sure your kid gets better and function in school?

I mean liberals never think about the consequences of their idealism.

of course but they're never be totally eliminated and GWB didn't exactly cut them if you know what I mean, it's just a talking point by conservatives to rev up the right wingers...

Get used to the fact it's gonna be around, maybe be slashed but never totally eliminated, yes I know it hurts to say that.
