Apparently, it hasn't sunk in with you that you gun worshipers lost the last election. And you have no chance again with the changing demographics of ever holding the executive again with the current GOP brand that caters to bitter, old, white, men.
So don't be so sure an assault weapons ban won't be in your future.
Instead of 1 gun per person in 50 years there will only be 1 per 2 people. There is huge amount of weaponry in private hands in this country and to assume that anything other than outright confiscation is going to provide any relief from incidents like this is being naive. Matter of fact you may drive more of these guns onto the black market where the value will be exponentially higher.
During the summer of 2012, over 150 black teens were killed by guns in Chicago alone. Why only crickets from congress and the national media...
Members of the Congressional Black Caucus have tried to push for gun control [to no avail] but there are no blacks in the Senate to push for it in the upper house. That is why it is very important to have diversity in the government.
You're average mass murder in this recent incident obtained them illegally, I don't know if you're aware of this as it has been overlooked but Lanza tried to buy guns a few days before he committed this act and was denied.

And even less from Rahm. I guess because they are only killing themselves and it's gang, drug related so they are culling the criminals by their own hand. I'd wager there's some innocent deaths there but most are one criminal killing another over stupid reasons.
And they probably have acknowledged to themselves that the guns were most likely obtained illegally.
Restrictions and bans would do Chicago no good.
Actually, the criminals are killing innocent bystanders as well. Three children were killed, while playing outside. There was relatively little news coverage regarding the incident.
It appears as though violence in the ghetto is normalized and expected, therefore, there's no need for any outrage, as long as it doesn't spill over into the desirable non black areas. For this reason, I can't take the gun control debate seriously.
