Just as there is a closed pool thanks to Ronnie Reagan, of automatic weapons, [no new weapons can be put in the system for private ownership, and those weapons that do exist for private ownership have to be sold through a class 3 dealer and you have to submit to an extensive back ground check, and then pay a 200 dollar stamp tax. once you own one you can not sell it at the local seven eleven. It has to be sold the same way you bought it.] This is why there is no to very few crimes committed with legal full auto weapons.

So why not create a new classification of gun. The semi auto pistol and rifle. If you buy or sell one, you have to pay say 50 bucks to the gov. to do a back ground check on you, and then you own that gun and can not sell it no mater what your local laws are at the wal-mart parking lot to god knows who. It has to be transfered each time you sell. Yep its a bit of a *****, and I myself a gun owner to the tune at one time of 150 guns [I am a bit of a collector] have sold guns legally in parking lots, AR and a Cetme[all legally]. But if it stops things like what happened last week a bit of hassle is nothing compared to the life of a 5yo.

He tried to buy a gun and was turned down. He subsequently killed his mother and stole her guns to commit this crime. How would have anything you suggested prevented this shooting?

Buying a gun should come with a few new rules. Here are some suggestions:

- 90-day waiting period
- criminal background check, mental health evaluation, DNA sample (paid for by applicant)
- limit of ONE weapon purchased every two years
- two people to vouch for you at application AND at time of purchase (Canada does this), background checks on both of them
- written report of what the gun will be used for
- no more semi-automatic weapons
- ALL weapons will have ballistic fingerprints taken
- magazines can hold a maximum of five rounds
- 300% tax on all weapon sales
- 500% tax on all ammunition
- limit on purchase of 10 rounds of ammunition per 30 days
- mandatory five-day weapons safety training
- gun shows outlawed
- private gun sales outlawed
- guns can only be sold back to an authorized dealer

The tax can go towards a massive gun buyback program and to pay for the other things on the list. All guns returned will be recycled and destroyed. The price to be paid for returned guns would be connected to the weapon's firepower (more deadly guns, bigger payout). And yes, these rules would apply to hunting firearms.

It wouldn't. It would only restrict Law abiding citizens.

Another Emotional Appeal dealing with symptoms rather than causes.

first off, his mother was said by her sister that she kept guns from protection. If she had to go through all that she may not have bought that kind of gun. Even if she did, maybe along with that you have to keep your gun locked in a safe. Nothing may ever stop this kind of thing and new gun regulation is not the only answer, its not a magic bullet [excuse the pun] But your argument is if you can't find a perfect solution then no solution is the answer. This is called the perfection fallacy. Its just bad cricket.

It would have prevented what happened in Aurora.

I'm betting that you are not a constitutional lawyer or scholar, so let's try it anyway.

No, you suggested your measures could have prevented this shooting. My point was that none of your suggestions would have prevented this. Larza's first criminal action of theft enabled his second criminal action of the shootings. Point blank, he did not respect the law so how is making even more laws going to prevent a similar circumstance? Perhaps the answer is not in even more gun control laws but somewhere else, say addressing violent mentally ill people?
