Why is arming teachers and randomly placing them throughout schools in a district and properly training them in gun use and basic tactics (basically, half-cop/half-teacher) considered so extreme? I think randomly arming teachers might not be too good of idea, but to create a new type of cop: half teacher/half cop is certainly something to think about.
Do you really not understand that one is a LEO and one is a teacher?

It is like asking what is the difference between a surgeon and a race car driver.

Is it that rediculous to have 1 of these specially trained per school?
No it isn`t rediculous. In fact, this how they deal with this problem in Canada,Great Britain,Japan, etc. Undercover LEO`s roaming the hallways.

I don't feel a particular need to "attack" your idea. But, I do think that it would be of questionable use. My opinion is either have someone dedicated to that position or not. As I pointed out, the Air Marshal's like the Secret Service protection details whose job is to engage active shooters put in a hell of a lot of hours at the range. If you are going to task a teacher without near the level of training and ask them to perform all of the duties and on going training and responsibilities that go along with being a teacher to confront an assailant, perhaps wearing body armor and armed with a high capacity semi-automatic rifle is asking a whole lot of a person in fact it is bordering on the irresponsible. And this doesn't even begin to address the issue of who the responding officers are suppose to decide in a split second who is the teacher and who is the shooter.

I would also suggest reading this analysis of armed intervention by "civilians" in mass shooting incidents.

Teaching is already one of the most stressful jobs, arming them is a recipe for tragedy with no guarantee it'll stop the next mass school shooting. Furthermore, with budget cuts and low test scores, the last thing we need to be doing is diverting teachers from lesson planning, grading, graduate studies in order to provide them the extensive training (including yearly refresher courses) on gun safety/crisis management/range practice/mental health reviews/etc.
Yup, got a family of teachers and that's their reaction.

This idea of arming teachers by conservatives......????

Conservatives who think teachers are nothing but overpaid union thugs

Conservatives who CLAIM they want smaller government.

Conservatives who don't want to pay more taxes?

Dunderheads obviously have no idea of what all that training, guns, ammo, licenses will cost.

OR how much more teachers should be paid to ALSO be armed guards.

Heck, pretty soon these "smaller government" jerks will want these union thugs to cook dinner for the kids and do their dental work....all with the same pay, of course....

AND, ever wonder if some teachers do NOT want to tote a gun....whose going to force them?

Will they be fired for not wanting to shoot?

Will they be fired if they MISS the bad guy and shoot a kid?

Will they be fired if they get shot first?

Let's train every midget in the country in combat shooting, then dress them as first graders and distribute them to schools throughout the country.

What would these undercover specialists DO all day? Despite what occured and what some think, the halls of our elementary schools are not hotbeds of terrorism and violence.

That's the last thing we need is deadly trained, assassin, ninja midgets! If that happens I myself might have to purchase a few automatic Glocks!
