President Obama has floated Chuck Hagel's name as possible replacement for Secretary of Defense. Chuck Hagel, former Republican Senator from Nebraska is very qualified for the position, but the Israel lobby including some Democrat and Republican congressmen believe he is not pro Israel enough.

Hagel is well qualified and I think it is great that the President wants to cross over and pick the most qualified person for the job even if that person is a Republican.

That's what lobbyists do.
It is legal to lobby.

Have you lost confidence in your elected legislative representative and have doubts about their ethics and character? Are you concerned they can be 'bought' or otherwise pursuaded, against their will, to support the lobby?

Your elected reps are the only ones who can pass legislation as lobbyists do not have that power granted to them.

America needs to stop bashing Iran and allow them nukes.

MAD kept america and the soviets safe for 50 years, and it will do the same to restore the balance of power in the mid east.

Israel needs to realize IT is the Pariah state, it is the one that breaks UN resolutions with inpunity, it is the one that invades others lands, it is the one that poisons soveriegn democracies through AIPAC and others, it is the one that commits atrocities and allows its citizenry to, it is the one that aggressively makes threats to its neighbours.

Screw Israel. They are not a friend of the U.S. and currently have way too much influence in U.S. politics.

That's all true.

But Americans have the right to point out this is a foreign lobby which has the interests of Israel first and foremost, above the US.

These foreign lobbyists ruin the careers of American educators and journalists who stand up to their bullying tactics by smearing them as Jew haters.

The don't like Chuck Hagel because he has independent opinions about Israel and they don't control him.

If you want your son/daughters killed over Israeli strategic interests, if you want Billions of your tax dollars given to Israel so they can bully their neighbors, if you want to give money to a country that spies on, and feeds false information to your government, a country that tries to goad us into more wars.........by all means you don't want Hagel.

The Israel first lobby includes Schumer and Feinstein.

Who isn't on the lobby in Congress? Both parties are tripping over themselves to be seen as loyal to Israel.

But yes, those two are among the worst.

Rand Paul might be the only one who stands up against them.

I heard about this about a week ago. Hagel has said NOTHING that could be viewed as remotely anti-Israel.

I've been a big believer for a long time that this nominating process has gotten out of hand. Presidents should be able to nominate anyone they want to cabinet positions so long as that person isn't a criminal. There is far too much politicization of the process. This is just like the Dems wanting to stop Bush from nominating John Bolton for UN Secretary. Why? Because he's an assh*le? So what? That'll just make Bush look like a fool for nominating him. Let presidents have their nominees for crying out loud.
