So where were all those raped and sold into slavery and video taped women POW's over the last 10 years who served in Iraq and Afghanistan?
Look up the term 'modern day slavery' which is a term that some are working toward creating a more public awareness on, and then come back to this statement. Just because we don't hear about it, doesn't mean it isn't going on...also, it doesn't mean that it is only happening to a few and even if it was just a few, one is too many.
Why does getting wounded and losing your helicopter qualify one for a promotion?
Given your ignorance of basic military leadership and promotion concepts, I believe you have never served a single day in uniform. Please change your username as you are misappropriating a military rank.
If we're going to level the playing field, fine. Just be sure we do it completely.
If you meet the physical and mental requirements to do the job, doesn't matter what is between your legs. However, we should not have lower requirements for one group in order to achieve diversity. There are probably plenty of men who wash out of combat training who could have made it in at the lower requirements currently in place for women. Why is that so? The rigors of combat aren't any less for women. Rucksacks don't magically become lighter.
Also, signing up for Selective Service - with the same penalties for not doing so as men face - should be required of women. Besides, the probability of the draft being reinstated is rather remote. If the crap hits the fan enough to start WWIII, we're probably going to need all hands on deck anyway.
The average man is not that big. The average woman is not that small.
It has more to do with strength than size. The reality is that men ARE stronger than women. Not all, but most. And in this "fair" society, this announcement will mean that the requirements for being in combat will be dumbed down, so that women can qualify.
When will women be held to the same standards as men?
They won't be. And when women are "discriminated against", and denied jobs, they will dumb down the requirements, making our military weaker. All in the name of diversity.
All of this has more to do with putting more boots on the ground than affirmative action. All volunteer military was instituted knowing full well military expansion world wide would not be sustainable by a draft. Look out for the new boogyman to scare us all into another conflict.

Maybe we shouldn't let women sign up for selective service because the moment that legislation passes I get a feeling we might see another baby boom. I'm sure they're not going to let a woman get drafted if she has children. Hence, women will go out and get pregnant just to avoid the whole process. That is, if there's a likely chance that we go into another big war.
