Yes, as long as men have to register, women should have to register as well.

Though personally I think the whole selective service system should just be abolished.

1. If we go this route, young women should be required to register for selective service. Our current military needs are being met through voluntary sign-up. If we ever need to reinstate the draft it will likely be due to some large-scale and (as yet) unanticipated national emergency. If that is the case we'll need every able body.

2. Somebody already said it - with equality comes equal responsibility. Women cannot (or should not be able to) cherry pick which "rights and responsibilities" they will accept.

3. This whole business of how many pushups men and women should do is bogus. Scientific and field-tested identification should be made of actual OJT physical requirements for each job classification. If the requirements can be proven to be necessary in order to perform the job, the standard should be the standard regardless of age and gender. The enemy won't care if you're 25 and female and in great physical shape or 42 and male and in lousy physical shape. The military isn't a game. Neither is fighting in a war nor staring down an enemy who is standing 20 feet in front of you.

4. I used to do week long adventure races out in the woods and mountains with all male teams. A week being filthy and tired, sleeping on the ground, sharing food, taking care of basic (very basic) hygene. The day to day logistics of sexes sharing the same space in harsh conditions can be taken care of through basic levels of consideration, mutual respect, and trust.

5. I have this image of a female combat soldier walking through the jungle loaded down with equipment and puking her guts out from morning sickness. Or running out of tampons after taking fire and hiding behind cover for long periods of time. Or being blown to pieces - and her squad picking up the pieces of her so that her husband back home can bury as much of her as possible. Or her partially skinned body being found tied to a tree with a wire wrapped around her neck and her breasts cut off. Think none of those things could happen? What we're talking about here is no joke.

Definitely women should be required to register for selective service just like men.

The last person drafted was in 1973, that's 40 years ago and if there is one thing that all five branches of the U.S. military adamantly agree about is never ever having to draft another person into their ranks.

They didn't want a draft when they invaded Iraq.

They didn't want a draft when they ordered Stop/Loss.

They didn't want a draft for the surges.

They didn't want a draft to keep troops from serving 5, 6 or whatever number of rotations.

So why is the question about the Selective Service suddenly relevant unless these threads are inundated by 18years olds whose registration is a recent memory.
If you have to ask that question, maybe you don't understand the issue!

As long as selective service remains in effect, all young people should have to register when they turn 18.

How does bringing back the draft answer the question of whether or not women should register for selective service?
