It never changes in Chicago. When I lived there, almost 30 years ago, there was a high school basketball star named Ben Wilson who was shot & killed by gang members while walking down the street with his girlfriend. His coach called him 'magic johnson w/ a jump shot,' and he was ranked as the #1 high school player in the country that year.
There is a period of hand-wringing, vows for more gun control from people like Daley, Blago, and Rahm. The result--thirty years later, nothing has changed.
What could any of them have done to achieve a different outcome?
Current gun laws in Chicago are less restrictive then they were 10 years ago, yet the homicide rate continues to climb.
-Gangs are oblivious to laws.
-Most of the shooters are never caught.
-If people know, they don't talk. Families protect their gansters.
-Easier to blame the Police.
-Most of these shooting occur along fluid borders of gang territories.
-If these neighborhoods turn into Police State, the gangs just move to another neighborhood and start new wars.

Hey, if it saves one child's life shouldn't they just kick doors in and rifle (pun intended) through their homes looking for illegal weapons? How about allowing the cops to pull drive-by's on the gangs themselves? It's for the children after all!
And perhaps if the Police could do this, the large inner cities would not have the gang problems they do. But we don't and thus some places share many third world characteristics.
What the hell does open carry have to do with this? Even if she did have open carry, she would not have been able to react to a drive-by shooting - she would still be dead.
And that's the thing about so many of these gun homicides in Chicago.
Not that many miles away in Lincoln Park.....they have the same gun laws etc etc. but they have a murder rate about as low as lowest countries on the planet.
This is just sickening. What a world we live. She, or someone else, might have been mistaken for a gang member so this savage opened fire on a group of children.
We just need to go Judge Dredd on gangs and end them once and for all.
But they want to get rid of guns. Which is laughable. The good guys will lose their guns, or not be able to buy more, but the thugs will know where to get guns without a problem.
