There is nothing to "overcome". Having your legs blown off is just what it sounds like I am sure, something that they will never overcome, its reality. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time is all part of life, there are events we can not change or compensate for..... I am sure the two girls who were blown out of the rear tail section in SF had no thoughts that they were in the wrong place at the wrong time..
