You think of the good ol' US of A in 1861 as tyrannical?
We stand together or die together. Seditious attitude should not be tolerated in any union. They have the right to rebel, but the union has the obligation to exterminate rebellious forces and deport the families, not to make them a voter base.
Where would you like your one way ticket to be directed towards?
Ones view of the Civil War is greatly determined by their attitude and views about the formation of the Federal government. Some see it as an agreement in perpetuity no matter how abusive the Federal government becomes...others see it as a willing agreement between the states that, when one voids the "contract" the other is able to end their side of the deal. We're not talking about a group of rowdy citizens in a particular state, half the states of the Union voted and agreed to secede...the Union wasn't obligated to provoke these states, they chose to.
Quote:
...the American idea that governments rest upon the consent of the governed, and that it is the right of the people to alter or abolish governments whenever they become destructive of the ends for which they were established . The declared purpose of the compact of Union from which we have withdrawn was "to establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity;" and when, in the judgment of the sovereign States now composing this Confederacy, it had been perverted from the purposes for which it was ordained, and had ceased to answer the ends for which it was established, a peaceful appeal to the ballot-box declared that so far as they were concerned, the government created by that compact should cease to exist. In this they merely asserted a right which the Declaration of Independence of 1776 had defined to be inalienable.

It was a failed rebellion. No other country in the world allows a failed rebellion's flag to be flown after it was crushed. To add insult in injury, some of these nitwits disgrace the US flag by flying that seditous symbol near it.
Those people are lucky to still be regarded as citizens.

So what do you propose, the Alien and Sedition Act, Part II? Anyone who disagrees with the government should be thrown in jail? Last time I checked, this was America and not communist China.

They disagreed by taking up arms against America. That's a bit different than marching on Washington. They were enemies of the state.

that probably would include about half the south then, the flag to some represents heritage, not hate.

I'm not concerned about the slavery issue or about hate.
It's a confederacy that took up arms against the United States of America. There's no heritage in trying to leave a union their ancestors fought and died to originate.
Fly a flag of a pecan pie, bottle of moonshine, or anything people want to represent southern pride, but don't fly the enemy's flag.

i understand what your saying, but that "enemy" around my area would be saying that our great-grandpas and uncles were the enemy.
