The school can certainly search your locker - that's their property. They can't search your car though - that's private property.

Public schools?

Who is the "they" in the phrase "that's their property"?

If we use a California public school as a hypothetical, the "they" includes me, because all California public schools belong to California citizens, especially taxpayers.

In Raliegh, it would be the property of the people of North Carolina.

What does that have to do with size of cars in Georgia or France?
Ha. Parisians think big vehicles are obscene, they live in a compressed, very dense city. All my friends have land and horses and stuff. Your environment creates how you see things. I cannot make a specific claim so I am talking in abstractions and analogy, it's clearly not working. A Christian may push forgiveness in this matter, because of the teachings of Christ, a stoner may not care, cus maybe he is stoned, an anti-gun libby may go on a rampage, well you know. I'm asking for you to look at it through the eyes of the admins, judges, da, the kid, students, parents, etc.

I have.

Just because I have examined their viewpoint does not mean that I must change mine.

This kid has been expelled and is being charged with a felony because the admins and DA are blinded to common sense.

If this kid was star athlete I bet the school would have looked the other way.

Twist (example): You are blinded to common sense and thus unable to provide a valid viewpoint.

That's how perspective works. The admins and DA aren't blinded to common sense. You *think* they are blinded to common sense.

Maybe, I would hope not. Obviously there exists unequal treatment and that sucks, but if the policy is very explicit, which I think it is, the administrators had little choice. Not many people are as strong willed and righteous as Henry David Thoreau, who would have simply quit his post than do the hurtful will of the government. "it isn't desirable to cultivate a respect for the law, but for the right". I agree, but, would you risk losing your job for the kid?

How old are you? I never had my lockers searched and I certainly did not have my car ever searched while in High School. Where did you go to High School? Or better yet..what state.

I am 27, and from Georgia, about 10 miles east of Atlanta in a town called Conyers. It was a very conservative town and I think the powers that be aimed to keep it as such. This was from 2000-2004 so not very long ago.
