Twenty years of dealing with the Japanese including long periods in Japan and Japanese on my staff.
You seem mostly good at carping at others inputs. You don't believe the Japanese are prejudiced against blacks (not that they are fonds of whites)? You don't believe they have a dislike for rust belt cities?
They sure don't seem to have any problem with Pittsburgh.....I can personally attest to that.
Plus, I've NEVER heard them say anything or act any way in a racist manner at all.
But of course it does. Whites continue to maintain some level of prejudice against blacks. And many fear being a minority even if they do not have a prejudice against blacks.
And others simply don't wish to live in an area with majority poor.
That means most of the US population will not be enthusiastic about schemes to rebuild Detroit. Makes recovery by rebuilding very unlikely.

Could be that Marv101 has read this thread - I posted this back on page 105 of the thread. The 1967 Riots were a big deal .. don't pretend they were not, even Coleman Young didn't try to pretend they did escalate the exodus from Detroit when he wrote his book.
This is what 'significant change' looks like.
1966 - 22,000
1967 (from August until December) - 67,000
1968 - 80,000
1969 - 46,000
Read about the 1967 Riot ..... it was serious and horrific. A lot of people were scared, not just white people - it wasn't just the whites that started leaving Detroit, blacks left also.
Some of you youngsters may think those were really "cool" times - the late 1960's, the early 70's - Summer of Love, the Civil Rights Marches, the anti war protests, the Riots, the Black Panthers and the anarchy of the Weather Underground ----- they weren't "cool", they were dangerous and they were serious. Some of it was about VERY serious issues and we did some really good things, but it's easy for things to get out of control and there are a lot of unintended consequences that occur. You didn't live it, I did - I can tell you for sure that I don't want to go back to any of it. We learn from history, we shouldn't choose to wallow in it and stay stuck in it, like the slime it was.
The only problem is that it is untrue. Detroit non-black population from 1950 to 2000 (every 10th year)

The annual change in white population during the decade was
1950 to 1960 -36431 per year
1960 to 1970 -34860 per year
1970 to 1980 -39363 per year
1980 to 1990 -19852 per year
1990 to 2000 -7168 per year
So in the decade of the riots the annual white exit went down. Went up a bit in the next decade.
Is it possible that there was some impact? Yes..but you would need accurate yearly data to assess it. But basically the rate of whites leaving is pretty much the same from the 50/60 decade until the 80/90 decade. Said another way Detroit lost whites at just above 350,000 per decade from 1945 until there was less than 350,000 people left.
Like I said, the right wing owns racism and there is nothing funny about it at all - except to them apparently. Gee, that was a liberal clown in the video? Yeah, that's it.

A right-wing talking point that institutionalized racism "no longer exists", even though Jim Crow laws were in effect as recently as 1965.

The fact is, liberals believe that blacks are indeed capable but are also still dealing with RW institutionalized racism. That is the reality and the one you wish to dodge.
Remember, it was corporate America that brought slaves here for dirt-cheap labor, and today corporate America has simply offshored its slave labor to "more friendly" places like Bangladesh with its lack of workplace regulation. The exploitative mentality is no different today - that's why labor markets like Detroit's are considered throwaways. The RW media response to this? The "greedy, lazy, ungrateful working class".
Sorry but the racism from people like you I have seen all my life. I have dealt with liberals like you who try to tell me I need the white mans help to succeed. It is people like you that want jim crow laws to be back and in effect. Sorry it isnt going to happen. You may always judge me by the color of my skin, but you know what, I support your right to be the way you are.
Wtf does that have to do with Japanese people not having a problem living in rust belt Pittsburgh or not being racist?

Xenophobia is so well established in Japan than even multiple generation Koreans, a similar people, who are completely acculturated over multiple generations are unacceptable as citizens of Japan. They love the purity of the stock above virtually anything. They are highly prejudiced against whites as rather inferior beings and more so against blacks.
Can you follow that?
