Deserves its own thread.

How does Detroit rebound? What were the causes of its problems?
Lol, this is what liberalism gets you, and this is what's coming to the rest of the country in the coming years.

One of the many problems here was the formation of the suburban ring cities. Allowed the well off to move out of the city and its problems. That led both to the unavailability of tawqxc revenue and the lack of skilled pressure for good government.

But perhaps dissolving the city is the thing to do.
The sh*t is about to hit the fan for the ring of suburbs though.

I do not know in Detroit but off hand here the Trash Co., The Water Co. The electric Co. The Sheriff and maybe they will have to start a volunteer fire dept.

As far as I know the only significant service not provided in a non urban county is fire protection...and that can be worked out. And you spread the load to the County or State.

Will they keep doing those things if the city stiffs them on the latest bills they send for last month's services?

Here the City gets billed for none of those services. The Sheriff is paid off County taxes. Again I don't know how Detroit is set up..

Yeah, it's incredible how much vacant land there is in the city when seen from the air. If the city can get it's act together you could be right about it becoming a pretty desirable place to live in the future. The potential for having HUGE tracks of public parks etc is enormous.
