I have been saying that since the housing bubble popped, the best way to get America back to work would be to have every bridge repaired or replaced, rail lines upgraded, and city and state infrastructure upgraded.
There's no money -- plus most of those people just want more extensions on their unemployment handouts or they are claiming some kind of disability so they can lay around doing nothing all day.
What really do you think would happen today if someone like FDR came up with a work program? If they had to work for their food stamps and welfare checks? They'd be outraged -- probably would start to riot and burn and loot.
People these days are ridiculous, the bridge that failed a few days ago was inspected months ago and was 100% fine. It didn't fail because of age or because of bad design. If you take a 50 ton block and ram it into the support structure at 50mph something has to give. That bridge is in the water today because of the driver of that truck not paying attention to the height of his load or his support team ahead of him.
Did you even read the article because it sure doesn't sound like it from your post.
What happened to all the money from the stimulus? I agree 100% that this situation with bridges is something that needs addressed. Maybe if the governments at the fed and state levels were not spending money on such stupid things, we would have the money to repair bridges.

I did read the article, I read it before you posted it here. I'm just tired of people acting like this bridge simply fell into the river due to a lack of upkeep. A steel box the size of a house hit it at a high rate of speed.

Well I guess you are content on watching this country's infrastructure crumble around you. And you would be surprised how many hard working Americans that were laid off in 2008-2010 would of loved to go back to work and make an honest loving.

What does any of this have to do with maintaining bridges or infastructure?
It makes you really wonder. Funny how so many of these bridges were build 60 to 70 years ago when there were far fewer people living here to pay the taxes to build them --- but we've been bringing in and adding hundreds of millions of people to the population and to use these bridges but now can't afford to maintain them.
The governments certainly have more than enough revenues -- the money isn't going for infrastructure.
Absolutely agree. There is a ton of money out there, it is just being squandered.
Lack of money is not the reason we can't build out our transportation network, upgrade the energy grid, or replace aging infrastructure.
