It does affect me what they eat because fatter people mean tax payers pay more for Medicaid and it's tax dollars used for food stamps. They can grow gardens or buy veggies and fruits cheap if they go to farmer's markets but I rarely see that. If they want junk food and free internet there is this thing called WORKING and if they are working there is this thing called balancing the budget.
Doesn't matter what you believe. The internet IS subsidized. People who qualify for the program get the assistance and once they get it they can do what they want with it. The government can't track their usage and say "oh you only use the internet to look at porn" no more than they can say "oh you didn't buy the cheap meat".

And really the rest of your post is laughable...you really think a large percentage of the people who are using EBT cards at fast food places have the know-how or the space to grow their own fruits & vegetables? A lot of these areas barely have grocery stores yet alone farmers markets. And the ones that DO have grocery stores often have to deal with higher prices for the same fruit & veggies. You really think the people you see loaded down with junk food understand the concept of balancing a budget?

I do believe EBT should be regulated but the "its not fair that they can have pizza & I can't" argument will never get it done. You can have pizza too...quit your job, apply for benefits, live the good life!

Had I known that they were making all of these goodies I would have gotten pregnant and went on welfare. Second thought, no I preferred to WORK for a living. People who freeload off the system need to be cut off and if someone is too stupid to grow a garden how is it my fault?

Of course the government is paying for internet, Obama believes that those on welfare deserve what working people have. In some states they even pay for cars.

Nice try but the internet was being subsidized before he was elected. Along with home phone and cell phone service, which is better known as the Lifeline program. Do you wanna try to pass a law that they can only use the phone for job searches and medical emergenices? Talking to the guy you met at the club on ladies night shouldn't be allowed on tax payer dole! Government also provides heating/cooling assistance. Good luck passing a law that requires them to keep the AC on 75!

Well duh phone shouldn't be used to call people for dates (likely to make more welfare babies). I had a freeloading friend on welfare who would call sex lines and welfare paid for it but according to some of you this was great because she needed entertainment.

Welfare paid for sex lines calls? In what way? Was she receiving cash? If she is receiving cash the same rules apply...once they give it they cannot take it away because it wasn't used to an acceptable purpose. If she got a cash payment she can spend the money however she wants rather that be on sex lines or a money bed for her pet hamster.

There should be regulations but not baseed on how you feel because you can't afford something.

Are you mad about the cost of the food because if the govt gives them $200 it doesn't really impact you in any way if they spend the $200 on soy milk & veggie burgers or $200 on pizza & brownies.
Yup, yup, and yup. What they eat or don't eat doesn't affect anyone else directly, and they get the same amount in benefits regardless... which is why it's CLEARLY just an issue of control, and people wanting to punish or shame those who are less fortunate. Quite intrusive and nanny-ish, if you ask me.

What other government programs bother you? Do you know the government provides subsidies for low income families so they can have affordable internet service...should they also regulate which websites they go on? Careerbuilder is fine but Netflix should be blocked!

You know what's really funny/ironic? I work at a public library, and there are people (perhaps you?) who believe we should be limiting or controlling what the public does on our computers... they think we should be using filters, and somehow restricting only the poor and/or unemployed from using them for recreational purposes. I've actually heard people suggest "maybe you should give them a limited card, and only offer them access to job hunting and educational sites." Again, it's all about shaming and control - not to mention, highly un-American & illegal to limit basic public services to only one segment of the population. How would we even logistically do that??

1. There is actually evidence that having a little extra weight is healthier than being thin... it's not healthy to be obese, of course, but 10-20 extra pounds is proven to add longevity and protect the heart. Not to mention, even the obese vary greatly in terms of their health. And how much are YOU really going to (potentially) pay for that one person who ate too much McDonalds and got diabetes? Like half a penny, if that. LOL

2. As was already stated above, most people who are unfortunate enough to require public assistance aren't going to have the means to grow their own gardens. Heck, I make a decent professional salary and can't afford a home with a garden! I live in a 1br apartment, which literally stretches my monthly budget to its max. So you think a single mother on welfare, living in a small rented apartment, would be able to grow their own fruits & veggies? Boy, it must be nice to be sheltered/naive enough to believe that.

3. In most cases, if they could work they would... but for whatever reason, they cannot at this time. You think it's fun to be on welfare, or that it pays more than a real job? Again, it must be nice to live in that little bubble of perfectness and easy living. And I say this as somebody who grew up wealthy, but even I know what the real world is like by now.

Why do you care how your friends get their entertainment, and how does the USE of her welfare money affect you or me? Does she get extra if she runs out, due to making those calls? And would you be happier if she spent the same amount on movies or museums instead? Oh, maybe you just think she shouldn't be allowed anything deemed as "fun."

Every so often (particularly when I lived in San Francisco), I will give a homeless person some spare change... should I follow them around for the rest of the night, to make sure they spend it wisely? Nah, because unlike you I don't care how people choose to spend what they have - regardless of how or why they got it. You guys are such busybodies, I swear!

It depends on the state. In California EBT can't be used on anything hot or prepared (like a sandwich). So stop pretending that your local/state problem is some how a national problem because it isn't.
