DHS tried in 2009 to redefine "terrorism" and move away from that word. But it didn't take hold.
Obama-Speak: Homeland Security Secretary Replaces 'Terrorism' With the Term 'Man-Caused Disaster' | NewsBusters
NAPOLITANO: Of course it does. I presume there is always a threat from terrorism. In my speech, although I did not use the word "terrorism," I referred to "man-caused" disasters". That is perhaps only a nuance, but it demonstrates that we want to move away from the politics of fear toward a policy of being prepared for all risks that can occur.
The election of President Obama was a man caused disaster that occurred twice.
Start going down the list--we have one of those wacky churches in this area, and most of the parents home school. The ones that don't are a major pain in the backside. When my kids were in elementary and Jr. High, they'd have a fit if the class read a book that talked about ANYTHING that wasn't a happy little story based in reality, or one that talked about bodily functions, or any type of fantasy story, or anything sad, or social problems, or divorce, or things like abuse--god forbid sex would ever be mentioned in any context. They managed to get Halloween costumes and a Halloween party banned--now we have a fall celebration--and their kids go to church on Halloween and dress up as bible figures to keep them safe from satan. I sat in a meeting once when one of them came completely unglued over someone who used the word "evolved" in a discussion about an ongoing situation--it referred to the concept of evolution! Gasp! Their kids are the ones who start ranting in class when they get to the section of biology on evolution. All of this makes it very difficult for the teachers to do their job, and for the kids to learn. I'm sick of it.
Someone with common sense put a stop to banning those words, but AS THE ARTICLE states, they were proposed to begin with because of religious fundamentalist parents having a fit over the years, and they would find them offensive. Why would anyone who isn't a religious fundamentalist CARE about it?
Right here is an actual story about people who care about it and are trying to ban words. Not a single mention of any religion backing these measures.
Again, I will note.....an actual, real story. Not one were we are required to have faith to believe it.
This is New York...they will probably ban words like add, subtract, multiply and divide too. Math is toooo hard.
I was thinking more like Marriage, Father, Daddy, Employment, God, Work.
