As previously stated...

The second amendment was about maintaining a military without a large standing army. The founding fathers were leary of a standing army, and it's why we disbanded most of the military after every war ended, until WW2

The military was not disbanded. The United States maintains a standing "Regular Army" as prescribed by Congress. What you are referring to is a reduction of forces of the United States Army Reserve, and other component units and conscripted personnel.

They do plenty against politicians, though. Cap a few problem ones and the rest will fall into line or hide in their cellars and cry.

Well let's not play semantics. Disbanded, greatly reduced size, whatever, the intent was clear. You need an army for war, not peace. The people could keep the country mostly safe from imminent invasion.

No. Out national defense it the purpose of maintaining our armed services, not an armed citizenry.

Then explain what Madison meant when he said this...

A standing military force, with an overgrown Executive will not long be safe companions to liberty. The means of defence against foreign danger have been always the instruments of tyranny at home.

That was the original intent of the Second Amendment, viz. to protect the right of the several states to control their militia's, and as a limitation of the power of the federal government over state militia’s under Article I, Section 8, Clause 15. At the time of the ratification of the Second Amendment, there was no standing army, and there was very real concern that the Constitution ceded too much power to Congress. See The Federalist Papers, No. 46 (James Madison, Jan. 29, 1788 ). However that has been largely made obsolete by time, as the National Guard is now an adjunct component of the United States Army Reserve. (Interestingly, an argument could be made that the deployment of State National Guard Units to Iraq and Afghanistan violates the Second Amendment.)

Yeah, it would be funny to watch a bunch of obese Cons try to start a rag tag team of rebels, the ones that didn't get shot would be sitting in a local jail before dinner time...but that would require the nuts to actually take action rather sitting on their computers waiting for someone else to start a revolution for them.

#1 who said that a revolution is wanted or needed at this time? Nobody. We are talking hypotheticals here.

#2 if and when the need for a revolution ever does arise, it won't be a Conservative effort. It won't be a Liberal effort. There'll be no Republicans, no Democrats or political parties at all. It wouldn't be confined to one area of the country, or one locale. The government would be totally infected with power thirsty tyrants to the extent that things like The Constitution and the expressed Rights therein would be completely abolished by this infiltrated government. Democracy, Liberty, and Freedom itself would be so far gone that it would just be an effort unanimously agreed to by humanity.

That is how I envision the circumstances in which an armed revolt would be a necessity, may it never happen.
