If it ain't broke don't fix it. Good change is ok. Bad change...not so much.

When it comes to the Founding, it's the basic principles we need to hold to, not the specifics. Indeed, the Founders themselves modified the Constitution all the time using the amendment process they created in the original Constitution. First they added on 10 amendments (the Bill of Rights) in 1789-91 as part of the ratification negotiations, followed by another amendment in 1794 dealing with court jurisdiction, then another amendment in 1804 to modify the way the President and Vice President were elected. Tinkering with political systems was commonplace and accepted during the early Republic, but the basic principles remained constant.

Now it seems like it's the opposite - we don't experiment with our political systems as much, and we've lost sight of the Founding principles. It's funny how there's a sort of inverse correlation between the two.

No no no no, wait, what am I thinking? Thats all socialism and therefore evil. Just look at all the successful conservative nations out there and you'll see...
A VAT tax is a tax on the poor. We have enough of those taxes now (Sales tax, Social Security tax, Medicare tax.)
How about an ASSET, or a NET WORTH tax? Let those of means pay for this "land of opportunity" where they made their wealth and provides the armies and police forces for them to keep that wealth.

It's not a tax on the poor if you don't include daily necessities (food, medication, etc) in it. Instead you tax consumption.

Necessities like Clothing? Roach spray? Furniture? Fast Food? Transportation? Toothpaste? Deodorant? Cable TV and Internet?

Remember, they tried to put a tax on YACHTS and that lasted only until the first yacht owner got on the phone with his Congressman.

VAT taxes, like sales taxes, will be onerous only to the poor who consume 100% or more of their income as opposed to the mega rich who might consume a couple percent.

Really, the only FAIR tax is an asset tax, perhaps exempting the first $50K, perhaps not. Tax what you HAVE, not what you consume, or even earn. WEALTH is HAVING.
