I feel like he should've never tried to work with the repubs. He should've rammed everything he could down their throats and in any orifice he could find from the get go. So much time and money wasted by these gop obstructionists. It's disgusting.
Why do democrats hate democracy and love to live in a dictatorship?
I am very proud our nation has progressed enough to elect a black man, even if he is half black, to be president. I voted for him in '08 because I so badly wanted that to happen. I did not vote for him in '12 because I can't stand his attitude towards the country he is supposed to lead, his inability to take responsibility for anything negative but his quickness to take credit for anything good, his failure to compromise, and his policies in general. The truth is, I am deeply saddened by how derisive he has been.

I'm a 22 year old black female. I can't stand him, to say the least (and that's based on his disdain for the second amendment and constitution alone). Yeah, yeah its great the country has evolved beyond racial prejudice enough to elect a black man to our highest office, yet I think it would be more of a proud moment if it was a black man standing up for what the majority of the country supports.
I like what he stands for and I think he has done a great job given the economy he inherited in 2008. He's done a decent job but I wish he did a few things different. He probably should have rammed a few things down the GOP's throats instead of playing nice.
I did not vote for him either times....nor the republican candidate. I was against him becoming president because I did not want to exchange symbolism for substance and I did not want to see all the accrued troubles of America, get blamed on him and I did not want to see a black face on US imperialism...etc...etc.
I just figured that he would not be able to do much for black America, and even less probably than a white democrat could do for black America. I also felt that a large percentage of the country would be against him and try to promote his failure and or lack confidence in him.....which keeps the economy from reaching its full potential. Economics is about confidence, hence, if people are not confident in the president it impacts their consumption habits as they may curtail their consumption and spending out of FEAR or uncertainty, if not out of spite. Either way, it means that the economy will perform at less than its potential.

The first graph of any biography about President Obama will lead with "the first African American President," and the historical, and sociological impact this historic moment could only be undermined by a failure of his presidency which to date has not come to pass. However, as presidents go, I doubt that he will deserve being ranked alongside Lincoln, the Roosevelts, Kennedy or Johnson. The Great Recession presented Obama with such an opportunity. From my perspective, Obama has not lived up to the boldness of his campaign, and perhaps considering the political climate that was too much to expect and for that reason and that reason alone there is a great deal of disappointment. But as a long time political observer, perhaps that was too much to expect. Overall, Obama has been a good president albeit not a great one.
I am very proud of the accomplishments of this President, from his historic election to the things he has been able to get done despite virulent, irrational opposition from the Republicans and other various and sundry political terrorists.
Having said that, though, I am somewhat disappointed that Obama was not bold enough or tough enough to accomplish many of the other things he should have accomplished. He had obstruction and opposition, sure, but there were also many other Americans who expected more ballsy, decisive leadership. I didn't like George W. Bush, but one thing I admired about the man is that he considered himself "The Decider" and went after what he thought was right. Obama was, especially in his first term, too tentative and too nice to his opponents. It cost him, and it cost the country.
To all those on this forum that are African-American, I am going to assume that many are proud of the President being President of the Greatest Country in the World and the fact that he is African-American.
But feeling proud of him and actually approving and/or disapproving of the Job he is doing are two different things. How do African-Americans on this forum actually feel about how he is doing and WHY?
I initially voted for him once in 2008, but I never considered him "black" or "African-American" ethnically. I didn't vote for him in the last election though. IMO he has been a major disappointment. Everything from his ideology, to his inability to construct and implement many of these backward policies and just his overall inability to navigate the system between the parties has shown that he is more of a media fabrication than he is a seasoned, and well experienced leader.
