Why is it when the word slavery is used - most everyone always connects it to the black slavery.
The bible mentioned slavery - Proverbs 22:7 "The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender."
There has been slavery throughout time. Indentured servants coming to America were no more than slaves. Educate yourselves and quit thinking that it's always a black vs. white connotation.
Very good. Basically what I said above somewhere, but I didn't have a Biblical reference at hand. Thanks for that.
There is a simple way to stay out of that 'slavery': Don't take a mortgage.
A house is an asset that can be sold, in most cases, to pay off the debt. I think the better example is something akin to credit card debt, whereas there are usually no tangible assets that can be sold to pay off the debt incurred.
I believe many millions of American's would assert that credit card debt, not the mortgage, is the biggest thorn in their side.

Yes, I agree mortrage is tied to a concrete asset, while CC debt is just a burden.

Martin Bashier had to apologize for it also. He has been an obnoxious pundent for the last year and PMSNBC has gone over the top. Its nothing but a left wing nut house.
There is a common theme among Christians that "the debtor is slave to the lender." I know of all African-American churches that reinforce this thinking as a primary trait of how to live. I think this is what Palin was referencing.
Of course it was. It shows the ignorance of this commentator.
On par with right wing talkers like Coulter who unapologetically spew vitriol. The right can dish it out but are so offended when on the receiving end.
Anne Coulter, like Sarah Palin, speaks truth to power. Coulter, being an attorney, is a bit more polished. But truth cannot be called 'vitriol.' What this commentator said was vitriolic. The truth Palin spoke, was not.

A mortgage isn't slavery if you have the income to make the payments. What we saw in the last decade was the borrowing of money when there wasn't sufficient income that would normally qualify one for the loan. But, that's the subject of another thread.

Exactly.
