Having been through a full background check for a military Top Secret clearance, I have often wondered why our elected officials don't have to get the same thing.
It seems they just automatically get a "Top Secret" clearance when they are elected.
Why is that?

How many "other people"? Other than who?
Palin wasn't sufficiently vetted and that was the fault of the McCain campaign. Everything was done in a hurry and in secret and McCain was just hoping for the best.

Later, campaign officials, faced with the reality that was Sarah Palin - regretted their haste.

It is more than a bit amusing to read all the various rumors and innuendoes that have been reported on, written about, passed around on the internet since 2006 who then turn around and complain that these were all big secrets "covered-up" Communist Muslims in "high places".

Some cover-up since every nut job and their mother keep repeating them over and over again.

Guess what folks, everybody knows and Americans either didn't care or like that vast majority of sane people in both parties KNEW that they were just a load of horse manure.

BUT THIS ISN'T THE THREAD TOPIC!

Who is more vetted, a prospective gun owner who is only checked for previous CONVICTIONS, or a presidential candidate over the course of a two year media bliz - please recall that FOX News, Brietbart, Limbaugh, Hannity, what was his name... oh yeah, Glenn Beck are all part of the media?

Sane people need not reply.

3 presidents have used their stepfather's name. ford, clinton and obama. ford legally changed it after using it 20 years, clinton after 10 and obama never legally changed his name to soetoro.

even if true, a candidates vetting is not exclusively reliant upon the media. $1.5 BILLION was spent between the mccain and romney campaigns to defeat obama ( not to mention the primary campaigns ). with that kind of money involved do you not believe there was a thorough vetting?

Why is that?
because any further requirement for the office of POTUS would require a constitutional amendment.
