The death penalty is just punishment for the crime of murder, and it is prescribed by God (and I don't care if you are an atheist, that's your problem). "If a man sheds another mans blood, by man shall his blood be shed."

Man was made in the image of God. Therefore, murder is a crime against God himself. Ipse dixit!
Genesis 9:6 does not state that a person who sheds the blood of another person must be killed.

Pricking a finger with a knife would satisfy the letter of the law.

If you want to change European behavior, you might have a better chance by posting your complaints in one of the European forums.
Mexico does the same thing.

Or the brazen bull.

Since you are so enthusiastic about killing people in barbaric manners, would you like to volunteer yourself for the brazen bull - its creator was the first one to be placed inside.

That is your justification for continuing to execute innocent people?

The death penalty is expensive given the number of appeals allowed and the court costs fostered on the taxpayers (including the loved ones of the victims). Why don't we counter part of that cost? Death by firing squad, but raffle off the shot to the highest bidder? If the highest bidder doesn't get a kill shot, work on down the list.

Seems reasonable for some of these heinous criminals. WHy should the taxpayer pay for their room and board for the next several decades? Why should other prisoners, or worse, guards, be in a position to be potential victims? One dead guard at the hands of one of these animals isn't worth it. Get them in the ground as soon as possible.

The modern way with stones.
the people that do that are held in esteem by the US, so in a sense the US endorses stoning.

Default We should execute people the old fashioned way

I am 100% for the death penalty I think it should be used for all degree of murder, rape and crimes against children, 1 appeal that must be used within 90 days and then the sentence should be swiftly carried out.
The firing squad or hanging is just fine.

For me it is the morality of the issue, along with the fact that it's been so abused. It seems like there's a lot of peer pressure about saying you're against the death penalty for any reason other than it being error prone and inefficient. Like people will peg you for being a crime apologist or something. I'm against it because I think killing for killing doesn't make any sense and sends a bad message.

Oddly while liberals are more likely to oppose the death penalty, it seems like it's conservative Christian groups that are most active in opposing it. Most liberals don't seem particularly concerned or invested in ending it, seeing other issues as more important.
