Losing population and gaining population at a slower pace than the country as a whole are NOT the same thing.

During the Democratic National Convention, The Huffington Post’s reporters approached several attendees and asked them for their thoughts on the state of the race and their party’s prospects for 2016. Of the 74 attendees they spoke with, 16 said they intended to leave the country if Romney wins in November.

I left NY for Florida and then Florida for Texas.

Been State income tax free since the late '70s and am glad.

Hate to pay taxes that get wasted by worthless policies and spending.

Indeed it is. Also, NYC has one of the highest tax burdens in the country, particularly for the rich, and a widely-cast safety net, which is exactly the Democrats' solution for combating the newest national problem that's come to our attention, "income inequality". Yet New York has the most income inequality (highest Gini) of any state in the country, and NYC has the most income inequality of any large city in the country. You know which state has the least income inequality? Utah, the reddest of the red states, followed by Alaska and Wyoming. Hawaii is the 8th most equal and is a blue state, but red states tend to have more income equality than blue states, especially when you exclude the South. Go figure .

I'm not saying that Democrats' policies caused the higher level of income inequality (it'd due to historical factors that long predate the Democrats taking over), but considering that incomes are the most unequal in the country and growing less equal with time in New York, the standard-issue solutions are obviously not effective.

The state of New York did lose population in the 1970's, but since then it's grown albeit at a slower rate than the country as a whole. If you look at domestic migrations, in terms of people moving in vs. people moving out, there was a net outflow of 1.6 million people in the 2000's. That outflow was made up for by natural increases and inflow from other countries, so the end result is slow growth. Still, when you have more people moving out than moving in, that's not something that should be ignored.

Taxes are a significant component of finances and the cost of living, in case you forgot that people are forced to pay taxes out of what they earn every year. Most people don't like having what they earn taken from them, particularly when when they get very little for what's been taken, so people in general prefer low tax jurisdictions to high tax jurisdictions.

Only information that comports with the pre-existing political/social agenda penetrates the reality distortion field of the Blue Wall (just kidding).

I also mentioned my old high school friends; all aged 30-31 who already left. They all (save one) took their prime work and creative years and family raising time to other states.

Why?
